City Of Johannesburg Municipality is the biggest ************ in the world. My COJ account increases every month by almost R2000.00 while there are only 2 working adults and a school going child living in the house.

I am so tired of this place. I have been sending them emails asking 100 times to stop sending statements to my work email. But they keep on dojng it anyway!!! I even told them I have moved out of that place over 3years ago but they are so useless and don't attend or read their emails. Even today again I still got a statement sent for balances owing. How many times must I tell them to stop using my work email!!! I have requested them multiple times to delete my work email but they don't listen Can someone please get hold of them to stop this nonsense cause it's irritating!! Extremely frustrating!!!

On 24 April, I accidentally made an overpayment to the account. I normally pay R1,000.00 per month; however, I mistakenly transferred R7,000.00. I contacted the organisation immediately after the transfer and spoke to a consultant who advised me to call back on the following Tuesday, as the payment had not yet reflected. I also sent several emails but did not receive any response. When I attempted to call again on Tuesday and Wednesday, my calls were not answered. When I eventually reached a consultant, I was informed that I allegedly owe the organisation and that a refund could not be processed. I explained that the payment was made in error and that I have existing debit orders that must be honoured. I am a single parent with no additional source of income, and as a result of the refund being declined, I am now in arrears on other accounts. I have also repeatedly requested that my meter be physically read, as my account is always based on estimates. Furthermore, I app**** for debit relief and submitted all the required documentation; however, my emails have not been acknowledged, nor have I received confirmation of receipt. I kindly request guidance on how I can receive a refund of the excess amount paid, as I urgently need the funds to settle my debit orders and my son’s school fees. Account number: 557658586 Your assistance in this matter would be highly appreciated.

From: Davis, Taryll T Sent: Tuesday, 28 April 2026 07:18 To: '[email protected]' <[email protected]> Cc: Marelize von Ludwig <[email protected]> Subject: FW: City of Johannesburg Account: 557214238 for 2026/04/09 Importance: High Good day, I trust you are well. I have been in contact with Marelize von Ludwig from ADS and have advised her that I am unable to commit to a once-off payment of R67, 791,70. The City of Johannesburg needs to clarify why I am being billed at Business tariffs when the property is strictly residential and occupied as such. The current charges are excessive, with monthly rates being nearly double—if not triple, what would reasonably be expected under residential tariffs. This is unaffordable and has made it extremely difficult for me to keep up with my bond and levy payments, which are already significantly high. Before entering into any payment arrangement—particularly given that it took two weeks for feedback on this matter, I kindly request confirmation of when the account will be corrected and restructured in line with residential tariffs. I look forward to a resolution and to receiving a corrected bill reflecting the appropriate rates. Kindest regards, Miss Taryll Davis 060 506 9349

I don't understand how your estimate is around 1300 every month and your total balance the previous month is sitting on just over 20k and suddenly the next month it comes back and it jumps to 71k 😭😭😭😭. How did they get a calculation of 50k in a space of 1 month. This is not the first time. The last time it jumped with 9k from where it was and when I went to enquire about it, no one could give me answers. We are all trying to survive in this country as it is. We try to keep our bills up to date however they will find something to keep you behind. I'm really disappointed in the economy we live in. Our parents fought this fight and now we have to fight the same battle even after you try by all means. Even when you go to enquire at their offices, they will always say they don't know. And no one can give you an answer. They will just say it's the system. Well the system is really ****ed up especially for the new generation living in a country that so expensive. The problem is not paying the bill the problem is when they see your bill is low they look for reason to make it high so you become indebted to the country. Soon your water and lights will be off because of their stupid systems. This is so damn frustrating😤😤😤😤😤😤 They continue saying you're not the only one it's happened to. Okay so what is being done to fix it or will they just keep draining us when we're barely even managing our monthly expenses.......

Thank you to COJ for the initiative of Debt Rehabilitation, however it is a system that gives no relief at all. As a customer it was "light at the end of tunnel" with the initiative assisting us getting back on track. We submitted our application in January and have tried numerous times to get an update with no response /updates. Can someone from COJ please advise how does one get an update.
