I am writing to raise a complaint regarding an Income Protector policy that appears to have been opened in my name without my knowledge or consent. I became aware of this after debit orders of R269.00 were processed from my bank account on 24 April 2026 and again on 23 May 2026. I did not authorise this policy or provide consent for any deductions to be made from my account. After noticing the second debit order, I contacted my bank and requested that the debit order be stopped, which has since been done. However, the bank advised that I contact Group R Us Insurance directly to ensure the policy is cancelled completely and to avoid future deductions under a different reference number. I therefore request: Immediate cancellation of the policy; Written confirmation that the policy has been cancelled; Confirmation that no further debit orders will be processed against my account.

This organisation misleads customers , I managed to speak to one of their agents , she tried her best to assist but I have not received the money they debited from my account , I think Ombuds should look at such businessess that works with no intergrity .

I am writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding an unauthorized debit order from Group R Us Insurance that was processed against my bank account. I stated clearly on the 12 April 2026 at 11h19 on Hellopeter website that i didn't open income protector policy that appears to have been opened in my name without my knowledge or consent. On the 24 April 2026 R269.00 was debited in my account that i didn't authorized. I hereby request the following: Immediate cancellation of any policy or service linked to my name and bank account. A full refund of the unauthorized debit order. Written confirmation that my details have been removed from your system and that no further debits will be processed. An explanation of how my banking details were obtained and used without my consent. Below is a reply from Group R Us Groups R Us Insurance Partners’s reply 12 Apr 2026 at 13:19 Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention. The policy you are referring to is an optional add-on that is presented during the loan application process with one of our partner providers. This cover is not app**** automatically — it is only activated where the option is actively selected and the mandate is accepted as part of the application journey. As the application is completed on the partner platform (in this case, in association with your loan application with Company X), the selection of this option and acceptance of the mandate would have taken place during that process. We understand that this may not always be immediately apparent, particularly where the loan is app**** for through a third party.

This company decided to start debiting funds from my account without my knowledge or consent. After doing enough research, I found out it was linked to a loan application I had made. Before they post the same copy-and-paste reply they leave on everyone’s reviews, let me make this clear: they never called me, never asked for confirmation, and I never agreed to any funeral policy or service. They clearly get people’s personal details from loan application companies, which raises serious concerns about how our private information is being shared. It also makes you question whether these online loan companies are even following POPIA regulations properly. This is an expensive life lesson, but people need to be aware of what is happening. Companies like this need to be exposed for taking money from people’s accounts without proper authorization.

I submitted a written cancellation request for my policy via email on 18 February 2026. Groups R Us acknowledged receipt the same day. Despite this clearly written cancellation, they *******ly debited R269.00 from my FNB account on 14 March 2026 — nearly a month AFTER I cancelled. After receiving the cancellation email, the agent Sandiso Santi demanded I participate in a phone call, claiming it was "required" for cancellation. This is false. Under the Long-term Insurance Act Section 63, written notice is sufficient to cancel a policy. I refused the call and reiterated that my written cancellation was legally valid. They continue to insist on a phone call despite having received a valid written notice. This is an unauthorised debit order in violation of: National Credit Act Section 126(b) Consumer Protection Act DebiCheck System regulations I have filed a dispute with FNB Bank and will be reporting this to: Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) Ombud for Long-Term Insurance South African Banking Risk Information Centre (SABRIC) WARNING TO CONSUMERS: Do not accept their claim that a phone call is "required" for cancellation. Written notice is legally sufficient. Document everything in writing and dispute any unauthorised deductions immediately with your bank. This company has a -100 NPS score for good reason. Their business practices violate South African consumer protection laws. Date of Experience: 14 March 2026
