Based on recent customer reviews, SASSA delivers a deeply troubled customer experience across virtually every dimension of service. Citizens consistently report suspended or missing grant payments, hostile and dismissive staff, systems that are perpetually offline, months of unanswered communications, and processing delays stretching into years. While rare positive mentions praise individual staff members at specific branches, the overwhelming pattern is one of systemic failure impacting the most vulnerable South Africans.
Top Strengths:
- •Service Delivery & Staff Conduct: A small number of reviews praise named individuals such as Dineo Motene, Mr. Lucas, Mr. Shane, and Midrand branch staff for exceptional helpfulness and compassion. The Heidelberg Gauteng branch receives rare praise for friendly, hardworking staff.

*********** SASSA PERSONNEL
I had a horrible experience at SASSA New Brighton, Port Elizabeth. I went for a Review at Walmer, only for them to inform me a to go to a Sassa near me, although i app**** for the the children grant there. Then i went to New Brighton for 3 days, just to tell me i then need this document, then that documents, but on the first day they ask me if i have the required documents that i should have. Later on to tell me its too full now i must come back the next day and ask why did i bring the children with. Next day i dont take the kids with then ask wheres the kids. Told them il uber the children just to tell me i must come back another day. Day 4 go back with the kids, to ask me wers the forms of the kids from the school. Then they isdued me with the forms to be filled in at school.Another day wasted at Sassa with *********** personnel. Not taking in consideration my off time at work, transport money wasted. Will have to go back again with kids, missing their schoolwork.

Requesting for help
I have tried calling Sassa several times requesting the to stop or help with the person who is earning R370 under my child's name that person has been earning that since August 2025. When I went to the bank to open an account for my son it says he already has an account. My son is not getting any R370 and he is struggling to get it. The statement shows that he is in Johannesburg the person who is getting Sassa grant under his names. My son is Durban never went to Johannesburg his names are Thoriso Lisolethu Reagike Cheloane

Unauthorized debits
I am writing on behalf of my friend regarding payments that goes off monthly . The bank statement shows no deductions. She went for an affidavit to proof at the office that she did not take any policies or loans. The monies went straight from her old age pension grant. She went to the office and she fiund out that a policy was taken out on her nane which she did not gave any permission and also do not have a contract for that matter. Sve is not tbe only one, because when she visited the office that day, there were also peolpe with the same problem

😤 Frustrating experience with SASSA - approved grant not paid out despite multiple follow-ups
😤 Frustrating experience with SASSA - approved grant not paid out despite multiple follow-ups. Been chasing them since January with no resolution, conflicting outcome letters, and the runaround between local office and online team. 👎

Child Support Grant Suspended Since January – No Response
My Child Support Grant review was captured on 23 January 2026. I submitted all required documents and have no income. My grant has been suspended since January and I have received no payments for 5 months. I have visited the branch multiple times and emailed SASSA and the Department of Social Development but have not received assistance. This delay is causing severe financial hardship for me and my children. I am requesting urgent intervention and restoration of my grant.

Horrible service delivery
OMW, where do I begin? My 81 year old mum and I have been to pillar and post and still not assisted. Her Postbank card where she receives her sassa pension into was *****ulently used by someone. When I tried to draw her money for her, the card kept saying declined. This happened for three months. On eventually calling Postbank we were advised to go to Sassa. I eventually got a statement from Postbank, opened a ***** case and went to Sassa on a Wednesday. I took the day off so I can sort this problem out only to find out when we get there that old age grants are only dealt with on a Monday and Friday. I had to go bank home. Back to Sassa tomorrow but the frustrating thing is that everytime you call them and explain the problem, you get told a different story everytime. Between Postbank, Sassa and the police station you run around like crazy. Now imagine an 81 year old having to sort this out in this frustrating process of you can call it that. I am beyond angry and disgusted by the service we provide to thw public. Why isn't all this communicated properly on the website and media. Why is it so difficult to solve a problem with government departments. Lack of communication and bad service is a norm it seems.
