Based on recent customer reviews, Universal Healthcare Administrators is facing significant dissatisfaction from members, with a recurring theme of frustration around pre-authorisation delays, rejected claims, and slow refund processing. Customers consistently mention being passed from pillar to post when seeking assistance, with little to no feedback on escalated queries. Members express concern over unexpected co-payments, poor communication regarding claim outcomes, and unhelpful call centre interactions. A common sentiment is that promised resolutions rarely materialise, leaving members feeling unsupported during medical emergencies and routine administrative matters alike.

Terrible service from universal medical scheme. Waited from 10am until 1h30pm to get a simple approval for my 11 year old daughter who needed to get surgery. Called 3 times and emailed them. I was told to calm down but how can you treat a child like this who's in so much pain. You take my money every month and now when we need to use our medical aid this is how we are treated. They had the nerve to ask the Dr why can't we just leave it and not do surgery and still have the audacity to ask how much its going to cost. I will definitely be getting a new medical aid. I cannot put up with such poor service or urgency.

This is the worst medical aid I have even encountered particularly when it comes to pre-authorisation. Every time one needs to be admitted you have to move from pillar to post. It's claiming from them is trying to trick them. Zero empathy and endless co-payments even with the most comprehensive cover.

Following my complaint on Hello Peter last week, I was told by Universal that the query will be investigated and Il receive a feedback call on Monday 9th January. As expected, no call received from them. If an escalated query doesn't receive the attention it requires, then there is no hope for the competency of this administrator and medical scheme

Awaiting a refund from Universal/Massmart medical aid since December 2025. Despite countless emails and calls, no resolution to date. The complaints department was copied into my email, but no escalation. This is for my mom who has been a member of the medical scheme since 1997! Pathetic service

I am writing to formally raise a complaint regarding an online consultation booked and paid for via the Universal (UConsult) platform. I scheduled and paid for a virtual consultation through the app. At the scheduled appointment time, the doctor did not join the consultation. I remained in the virtual waiting room for over 10 minutes. Thereafter, I contacted the doctor directly to enquire about the missed appointment. The doctor informed me that he has asked to remove himself from the platform, stating that he does not receive his payment when consulting via the app and therefore no longer uses it. As a result, the consultation never took place. When I requested a refund, the doctor advised that he is unable to process refunds and that this must be handled by the platform. I then contacted the platform directly, however, I have not received any clear response, solution, or guidance regarding how my refund will be processed. I am extremely dissatisfied with this experience. I paid for a medical consultation that did not occur, and I am now being referred back and forth between the doctor and the platform without accountability or resolution. I kindly request urgent assistance in processing my refund and clarity on the refund procedure for consultations where the service provider fails to attend the appointment. I trust this matter will be addressed promptly. Please contact me urgently 0725497563

Here yee here yee, gather round while I tell you a tale full of horrors beyond your wildest dreams. Twas a fine day when the fair ****en decided that enough was enough, and after battling for 2 weeks with chest pain decided to brace the journey to the dreaded hospital. The weather was stormy and cold as she braced herself against the elements, battling the treacherous road and slaying the dragon before storming the keep. The brave knights performed tests and made notes as they pulled faces and looked at charts, no issue was found and the fair ****en was banished from the keep before days end, with promises that next week it will be better. Potion in hand she battled her way home and took the potions, that made her feel horrible but she pushed through. Weeks later the issue was found, what it was is currently not important because the focus is not on the fair ****en’s health, it is on what went on around it. The fair ****en received an invoice from the Gods (or so they seem to think they are) for tests ordered by the hospital they recommended. Said Gods have now decided that these tests and potions are not covered by the ****en’s medical aid and she should have died first before seeking help. This is not my story, but I am a concerned friend and citizen, how many more people need to be put in this position where the tests are ordered by the doctors and the medical aid declines them. Is this fair that you need to be dead before they will cover you? I think they should be held responsible for preventative medicine as much as for what comes after. They seem to be more interested in paying almost 2 million for the patient that survives a heart attack than the 400 to prevent it. In my not so humble opinion, if you go to a doctor because of a real concern, and the doctor orders tests. The medical aid should cover it. So, if you care about your family or loved ones, go literally anywhere else, because the grim reaper provides better health care than these money hungry tadpoles. Things you will need to be able to do • Beat the devil at a fiddle contest and keep your soul • Colonize mars and populate the entire planet on your own • Challenge the 4 horse men to hand to hand combat and win Things you will not be able to do • Get these money hungry vampires to pay for your medical expenses • Cancel your medical aid when you are not happy with the service • Get the vampire overloads to stop draining your bank balance even when they don’t keep to the agreement Other skills you should invest in, if you decide to sign up with this company include • Finding the Necronomicon and dedicating your life to bringing back the dead (because this will work better than trying to get them help before they die) • Finding the fountain of youth so your loved ones will never need to go to hospital or see a doctor (in that case save your money) • Hope you won the genetic lottery and will never need to see a doctor because if you do it will be coming out of your pocket • Finding a cross roads demon and giving them your soul for 10 years of good health when you do get sick (still cheaper than paying these money hungry turd bags anything) • Hoping that the phrase break a leg in fact does not cause your leg to break as this will be expensive and you will not have a good time at all • Learn to do your own stitches so you don’t get charged for it • Learn to do open heart surgery (don’t worry your mom wont mind, if anything goes wrong, she can actually use her medical aid in the afterlife)

****!! Pathetic excuse for medical cover. Not even close. I've never battled with a medical aid so much and I've been with Discovery. They WILL missell, so please don't even bother giving you the time of day. I am now dealing with the costs of a hospital visit I was assured would be covered, but of course now isn't. They have no department to deal with claim investigations or reviews, and no department to deal with client concerns. For over 2 weeks now I've been emailing a "representative" (Khensani) who has been incredibly unhelpful, they are now also trying to con me out of additional funds for a termination notice period after costing me exorbitant amounts, and breaching their own contracts by not covering what was promised. Save yourself the trouble and rather go to government hospital - yes, this **** company is that bad.
