I am posting this as a warning to other buyers, especially those considering ordering online. We have bought workwear from Johnson’s for many years. Their shoes, socks and overalls used to be of exceptionally high quality — durable, practical, and well-suited to real working conditions. You only needed to buy once every couple of years because the products lasted. That is no longer the case. We recently placed an online order and every item we received was substandard compared to previous purchases, despite being sold as the same products. • Housecoat: Previously light, breathable, and practical. The current version is extremely thick, stiff and uncomfortable. Even after washing, the fabric remains hard and unyielding. We live in a hot and humid climate, and these overalls are completely unsuitable. This is not a minor change — it is a fundamental downgrade in fabric and wearability. • Socks: Advertised as cotton rich, but they are largely synthetic. Only the heel and toe areas resemble the older quality. The rest of the sock is slippery, lacks structure, and causes the foot to slide inside the shoe. At R119+ per pair, this quality is unacceptable and comparable to cheap multipack socks. What makes this worse is the returns and refund process: You must pay your own return costs, send the item to a store yourself, and complete additional admin to ensure the return is processed correctly. For products that are clearly inferior and inconsistent with past quality, this places an unfair burden on the customer. My advice: Do not buy from Johnson’s online. The quality is inconsistent, and based on this order, I cannot confidently say that Johnson’s still offers reliable workwear at all. We will not be buying from Johnson’s again.
The Plumbing Lady provided excellent, no-nonsense and transparent service. She charged R950 per hour, plus an R115 travel fee from Centurion to Roodeplaat, and only billed for the materials used—even charging just for half a tube of silicone. The job was completed efficiently and to a high standard.
When our kitchen cupboards arrived, the handles were completely different from the handles shown on the pictures. We were not happy and asked to be sent the handles as shown on the picture. The response was: “The handles on the kitchen on our website look different because of the ArtiCAD drawing.” This is misrepresentation.
The cupboards are generally easy to assemble and quite sturdy. However, some improvement in quality control is needed for perfection. The pre-drilled holes aren't precisely aligned, leading to misalignment of the cupboard doors. This cannot be fixed afterwards, and left us disappointed with the product.
I am the executor of a deceased estate. The deceased had investments with Nedbank, Allan Gray and Vunani. Allan Gray and Vunani resolved and paid out within a days of verification. Nedbank keeps stalling and has still not paid out the deceased accounts after confirming on 29 October that verification had been completed. This was Nedbank response on 23 November 2023: "Reference Number 11272531 is logged for pay-out. We are unfortunately unable to provide a turnaround time due to high volumes." A bank busy to pay out money? Its now 16 days later, and we are still in the queue waiting for payment. Why would anybody still bank with Nedbank?
We wanted to order a certain keyboard online for my son's birthday, but found it cheaper at another seller. After reading Paul Bothner Music's reviews, we knew that this was the company we would like to deal with. I e-mailed and WhatsApped, since we had less than a week's time before my son's birthday. The response via e-mail and WhatsApp was immediate. We asked if Paul Bothner Music could match the price of the other seller, and they immediately agreed. We ordered on Friday afternoon, and the keyboard arrived today (Tuesday morning). Thank you for excellent service!
We have had an account with Timefreight for about six years now. During this time, there had been overcharging on at least a third of our accounts. To correct such overcharging takes at least 2 e-mails, 2 telephone calls, and up to two months of follow-up to make sure it happens. We are a 2 person business, but I think bigger businesses do not pick up on such overcharging. Today when tracking a parcel, I noticed that my client was also being charged for the delivery. The quotation and booking of the parcel were done online, and clearly stipulates "Account of Sender" on all the e-mails. How many of my clients may have been offended in this way, and have just left doing business with us because of this? We are charged for all parcels, but now it seems our clients are sometimes also charged! Then there was the time when all my parcels had to be delivered for an expo the day before build-up at the CTICC, and Timefreight just did not. I had to literally beg Timefreight Cape Town on build-up day to bring my parcels. They said they did not have a vehicle big enough for the delivery available that day. After more than six phone calls, with each call preceded by a long automated waiting period, and a lot of begging and pleading, the parcels arrived around 19:00. The exhibition was an annual one, costing around 60,000 for the 4 days, and build-up may only happen during that one day, and only until 18:00. Decorex allowed me to set up that night still. I worked until 23:00 and was exhausted during the show. (I worked alone). This was one of the most stressful days of my life, and I vowed never to use Timefreight again. And for I a while, we did not.. More reasons for the one-star rating: Timefreight (and other courier companies) use third parties in remote areas. With Timefreight the system does not have a follow-up procedure to make sure that the parcel had actually been collected. Sometimes parcels are just left forgotten. Worse case was when a parcel booked to be collected from Gariepdam, had not been collected two weeks after the expected collection date. This is not a once-off thing. The last time this happened to one of our parcels, was last month. Sometimes surcharges were levied after we have accepted a quote online from Timefreight. This happened twice from remote areas in the Western Cape, where I particular branch would refuse to pick up a parcel before the "ransom" is paid.
I ordered a 100% Cotton Karate suit online, which turned out to be 65% polyester. I did not buy a suit in-store, as there were only 65% polyester suits. I googled for 100% Cotton Karate Suits, and Mr Price Sport came up first in the search results. When the order arrived, the suit was the exact same suit as the in-store ones (65% polyester). I returned the suit and was refunded for the cost of the suit only. The misrepresentaion on the website and app wasted my time and my money. No one has responded to the e-mails I have sent to [email protected]
When our Nexen tyres on our new Fiat Ducato was out of round (basically ready to burst at any moment) after only 11,000km, we reported them as faulty to Fiat SA. Fiat SA appointed Natric Motors to inspect our tyres. Natric Motors' finding was that our rims were buckled and that this was the cause for the tyres going out of round. Based on Natric's report, neither Nexen Tyres nor Fiat SA would assume responsibility for the 5 tyres that needed to be replaced. (the spare tyre was out of round after only ****m of use). Interesting fact: Nexen Tyres' importer/representative = Minty's Tyres Doornfontein = Nartic Motors. If Natric Motors had found that the tyres were faulty, they would be responsible for righting the wrong. We went to Tiger Wheel & Tyre to have the tyres and rims replaced. TW&T said that the rims could not have caused the tyres to go out of round, and the rims need not be replaced.
Minty's is the distributor of Nexen Tyres in South Africa.
