City of ekhurleni municipality
Based on recent customer reviews, City of Ekurhuleni Municipality is facing widespread dissatisfaction from residents across multiple service areas. Customers consistently mention prolonged electricity outages, persistent water supply disruptions, and disputed billing involving inflated meter readings. A recurring theme is unresolved logged cases, with reference numbers issued but little follow through from call centre staff or technicians. Residents also raise concerns around uncollected waste in informal settlements, unrepaired potholes, and rude frontline service. A small number of customers acknowledge helpful field staff, but positive sentiment is overshadowed by frustration over basic service delivery failures.

I am extremely disappointed with the lack of service and response regarding my rates clearance certificate request. The request was submitted on 11-May-2026 at 07:43 and allocated to Jennifer Trollip. Since then, I have followed up several times but have not received any response or meaningful update on the progress of my request. This delay is unacceptable, especially as the certificate is urgently required for a property sale. Despite multiple attempts to obtain assistance, there has been no communication or resolution provided. I am requesting urgent attention to this matter and immediate feedback on the status of the certificate. Customers should not have to follow up repeatedly to receive basic service or updates.

The City of Ekurhuleni is very quick to disconnect your electricity if you are short by even R1 on your account, but when residents actually need service delivery, there is absolutely no response. We first logged a complaint on 5 May 2026 regarding a lamp pole that is falling over and hanging onto power lines. Since then, over 20 service calls have been logged, and even our area head has been contacted — yet nothing has been done. This is a serious safety risk. If this pole falls, it can: Damage private property Destroy boundary walls Block access roads to the area Potentially cause severe injury or even death The big question is: if someone gets injured or killed, or if private property is damaged, will the City take accountability? Or will residents once again be left to deal with the consequences alone? How many complaints need to be made before action is taken?

Faults reported iro Germiston Technicians are not attended to within set time lines of 48hrs; when you follow up for escalation; you are promised they will attend asap but i have called daily for 14 days since 29 April. I have a low voltage causing electric shocks on showers and taps, my fridge has been off for 2 weeks; flickering lights when you plugg in appliances i.e. kettle or turn on stove. The poor work ethic of closing unattended issues as resolved. No accountability for technicians. Service not delivered but payroll runs and electricity bills are escalated.

The city of Ekurhuleni u sending me a bill for 50 kl Interim, water used, on a new meter installed dated 24 March 2026. I went to Nigel municipality and was told its a mistake. You gave me the correct amount on 26 March, and I paid the full balance that you gave me. Now you penalized me with a final notice of R253 50 for your mistakes. You also added a Interim for 23 April 2026 for 50 kl. This means that I used 100 kl for two months. But the truth is that you fail to read the meter. The truth is that there are not 100 kl on my meter, not even 50 kl. Shame on you City of Ekurhuleni. I'm renting the property out and can not pass this mistake on the the person occupying the premises. As a result the agent can also not determine the correct amount for the tenant to pay. And now there's a final notice already issued. This is unacceptable
