Based on recent customer reviews, Black Cygnet Life receives sharply divided feedback. Customers consistently praise individual consultants by name, particularly within the claims department, highlighting compassionate handling of bereavement claims, swift payouts, and clear communication during difficult life events. A recurring theme on the negative side involves frustration with cancellations, retrenchment benefit activations, and unanswered calls and emails when policyholders need assistance most. Several reviewers describe feeling that confirmed arrangements were not honoured, while others express deep gratitude for staff who guided them through emotionally taxing claim processes with professionalism.

I am extremely disappointed with the way my retrenchment policy activation request was handled by Black Cygnet Life. On 19 August 2024, I formally requested that my retrenchment benefit be activated effective 1 September 2024. This request was discussed telephonically with the consultant and later confirmed via email. The consultant involved has since acknowledged negligence on their part via email stating that the benefit should have been added when we initially spoke. However, despite this acknowledgment, the Team Leader is now refusing to honor the benefit, stating that no premiums were deducted and therefore no cover exists. As a client, I re**** on the consultant’s confirmation that the policy amendment had been successfully activated. At no point was I informed that the process was incomplete or that premiums were not being collected. It is unreasonable to expect clients to identify internal administrative failures, especially when clear confirmation was provided. What is most concerning is the contradiction: Negligence has been acknowledged by the consultant Confirmation of activation was provided Yet accountability is now being avoided In a time of crisis, after being retrenched, I sought clarity and support—only to be told “no premium, no cover,” despite doing everything expected of me as a policyholder. Clients place trust in financial service providers, particularly when decisions are confirmed through recorded calls and written communication. If such confirmations cannot be re**** upon, it raises serious concerns about the integrity and accountability of the company. I urge others to carefully review their policies and ensure that what is promised is actually implemented with Black Cygnet. Loyalty to a company should not result in disadvantage when it matters most.

I want to sincerely commend Sonia Naicker for the exceptional way you handled my late uncles claim, from start to payout. You were transparent, compassionate and extremely responsive, there is no email you have not answered, you are professional and you know your job well, As mourners, we go through a roller-coaster of emotions and you kept a level head for both me and my family, As people we especially in times like these lose faith in our insurers but your company not only stepped up, you showed us humanity which I am sure is the culture your company and you strive on. I don't know how many people are going to see this but know that me and anyone close to me recommend this insurer, all day, every day, thank you so much for lifting this heavy logg from our shoulders

I have bond insurance with them and have the benefit added for retrenchment, I submitted all the requested documents in 12th of March and have not gotten any feedback from Sonia Naicker and Brendon Kinsey since. When trying to get a hold of them they have not answered calls while I have been waiting more than 10 minutes each time. I emailed client services and they have not even back to me after 2 days. The after sales support is absolutely **********.

On 22 October I sent an email to cancel my life insurance as the house was sold in September. My premium was R103 pm. I received an email advising that someone will contact me to confirm the cancellation but no one called. Today I was more than R500 was debited from my account. I then sent an email again to cancel and a very nice lady did contact me this time. She sent me a form and told me that a form was sent to me via email on 4 November but I never completed it. I did not want to argue with her without double checking if I did not miss any email from them. After the call I checked my emails and I did not receive any form. I sent an email again to ask that the cancellation be backdated as the house was sold in September and I cannot be paying for a house I do not have. I received an email to say they cannot refund me as a form was sent to me which I did not receive. I also do not understand how the amount came to R500+. I will definitely be referring this to the ombudsman as I initiated the cancellation early but it was not processed. The company also did not assume any risk because the house is not under my name so what exactly was I covered for if they argue this.
