Allan Gray
Based on recent customer reviews, Allan Gray receives sharply divided feedback. Customers consistently mention frustration with slow withdrawal and pension processing, repeated administrative errors, and difficulty updating personal details, with a recurring theme of poor follow-up and patronising consultant responses. Several investors raise concerns about transparency around endowment restriction rules and lock-in periods. On the positive side, a recurring theme is praise for specific consultants such as Kwanele Dlomo, with clients highlighting professionalism, patience, and knowledgeable agents who deliver smooth investment experiences and strong service.

Worst Customer Service from *********** Consultants prematurely answering emails and being patronizing. Not being allowed to speak to senior personnel of management. Not being cc'd in correspondence that resulted in more than 6-month delay and having to open Ombudsman complaint. Are you not willing to pay for competent employees anymore or also chasing BEEE compliance or merit?????

Absolutely no professionalism, did a withdrawal exactly 5 days ago and no one can explain why the delay, same old blanket responses. 2 colleges of mine withdrew after me and their withdrawals has been completed within 5 days but apparently the procedure applies to everyone. Very disgusted after wanting to open more investments with them.

THE WORST ADMIN INTENSIVE COMPANY TO TRY DO ***ANY*** BUSINESS WITH, AND MAKE MISTAKES ON *EVERY* INTERACTION WITH THEM! DO NOT SIGN UP FOR ANY PRODUCT WITH ALLAN GRAY. It seems like young staff are appointed to run the floor and do not know the systems/products in place. I have encountered this lack of experience in every one of my dealings with them. And, their processes are absolutely tedious, time-consuming, and unnecessary (changing debit orders, 30 pages needed filled in, restrictive formats; hours to get anything changed on accounts/reviewed etc).

Formal Complaint – Disrespectful and Threatening Conduct by Security Guard at Allan Gray Building I am writing to formally raise a serious complaint regarding the conduct of a security guard stationed at an Allan Gray building. A female contractor working on site was treated in an extremely disrespectful, rude, and threatening manner by this guard. He stated that if she returned to work the following day, she would not be granted access. He further claimed that he “pays her salary,” which is entirely false and inappropriate. Such comments are not only unprofessional but also intimidating and unacceptable. This behavior is deeply concerning, particularly within a company as reputable and prestigious as Allan Gray. Contractors and service providers should be treated with dignity and respect at all times. No individual should feel threatened or belittled while simply performing their job. The guard’s conduct was ****y, dismissive, and abusive in tone. This reflects poorly on the standards and values associated with Allan Gray. Immediate investigation into this matter is necessary, and appropriate disciplinary action should be taken. If this individual cannot conduct himself professionally and respectfully, he should not be in a position that involves interacting with staff and contractors. I trust that Allan Gray Head Office in Cape Town will take this complaint seriously and address the matter urgently to ensure a safe and respectful working environment for all. I look forward to your prompt response and feedback on the action taken. Kind regards,

I am lodging a serious complaint against Allan Gray for what I believe is an unfair, misleading, and potentially ******** restriction placed on my endowment investment. I invested in an Allan Gray endowment in 2021. I made ONE withdrawal in 2022. Based on all information and documentation available to me, the restriction period was due to end in February 2026. I have planned my finances accordingly based on this timeline. I have now been shocked to learn that Allan Gray has unilaterally extended my restriction period until September 2030, claiming that I breached a so-called “120% rule”. This is completely unacceptable for several reasons: • At NO stage did Allan Gray warn, notify, or alert me that I was approaching this alleged 120% threshold. • At NO stage did Allan Gray clearly disclose that breaching this rule would result in a completely NEW five-year restriction period. • Their Terms and Conditions do NOT clearly explain how this new restriction term is app**** or what rules govern withdrawals during this new period. • Allan Gray is now refusing to allow ANY withdrawals whatsoever during this newly imposed restriction period. This behaviour is extremely concerning and appears to be designed to trap investors into extended lock-in periods without clear disclosure. It is unreasonable and unfair for a financial institution to impose a further five-year restriction without proper warning, transparency, or explicit contractual clarity. Consumers have a right to clear, upfront disclosure of any material terms that affect access to their own money. Allan Gray’s failure to notify me when approaching this threshold denied me the opportunity to make informed financial decisions. Effectively, Allan Gray has moved the goalposts after I already entered into the investment agreement and planned my finances around the original maturity timeline. I find it unacceptable that: I am being punished for breaching a rule that was never clearly explained or communicated. Allan Gray failed in its duty to proactively inform me of a major financial consequence. I am now being forced to wait an additional four years beyond the original term to access my funds. This raises serious concerns about transparency, fairness, and consumer protection. I formally request that Allan Gray: Provide documented proof where the 120% rule and the consequences of breaching it are clearly and explicitly explained in their Terms and Conditions. Explain why no warning or threshold notification system exists for investors. Reconsider their decision and provide fair access to my investment funds. If this matter is not resolved urgently, I will escalate the matter to the relevant regulatory and consumer protection authorities.
