I am extremely disappointed with my experience with Alf Duncan Auctioneers. When it comes to collecting your items, they are incredibly quick, responsive and efficient. Arrangements were made promptly and my goods were collected without delay. Unfortunately, that is where the good service ends. My items were sold on 2 March 2026, and despite their stated policy that payment is made approximately 14 working days after the sale, I have still not received payment months later. I have sent multiple follow-up emails requesting clarity and payment updates, but communication has been terrible. Most emails are ignored, and when I do receive a response, I am simply told that someone will “follow up” — with no actual resolution. I have also requested to speak directly to the person responsible for payments or to management, and those requests have been ignored as well. It feels as though they are very eager to collect your property, but once they owe you money, they disappear. This entire experience has caused unnecessary stress and frustration, and I have now had to escalate the matter formally. I would strongly caution others to think carefully before consigning items with them.

I’ve been buying from Alf Duncan for over 10 years, so I trusted them when I sent a few items to their auction in February to sell. The total came to only R500, which was fine—it wasn’t about the money, just convenience. After a month, I followed up asking why the payment hadn’t been transferred. I was told the auction still needed to be closed. Since then, it’s been a constant stream of excuses: “we’ll pay on Monday,” “I’ve sent it for processing,” “it will be done shortly,” and so on. We are now in April, and I still haven’t received anything—just more delays and empty promises. At this point, it feels like they rely on the fact that small amounts won’t be chased aggressively, allowing them to keep the money. Based on my experience, I would strongly advise against giving Alf Duncan anything to sell. You’re far better off selling items yourself on platforms like Gumtree or Facebook—less hassle and at least you’ll actually get paid.
