Claim Rejected Despite Clear Storm Damage
I am extremely disappointed with the handling of my claim by SAHL Insurance.
Following 3 days of severe localized flooding and heavy rainfall, I submitted a claim for sudden and significant water damage to my property. I have only been residing in the home for one year and had never experienced any leaks or water ingress prior to this event.
SAHL Insurance rejected the claim, citing wear and tear, lack of maintenance, and alleged design defects. While I acknowledge that no property is perfect, these factors did not result in any failure until the extreme weather event occurred.
The damage was sudden and directly linked to the intensity of the rainfall. The rejection appears to rely heavily on exclusions while disregarding the proximate cause of the loss.
I believe this claim has been unfairly assessed and that the decision lacks balance and proper consideration of the actual cause of the damage.
I am formally requesting a reassessment of my claim. Should this matter not be resolved fairly, I am prepared to escalate it further, including through my legal protection plan and the appropriate regulatory and dispute resolution channels.

After previously raising concerns publicly, I made every effort to cooperate fully and submitted the documentation requested by the insurer, including proof of repairs completed following the previous rejected claim. Despite this, the matter continues to be delayed with ongoing requests for additional documents and changing requirements.
What is most frustrating is the lack of clear and consistent communication from the beginning. Instead of being provided with one complete list of requirements upfront, I continue to receive new requests after complying with previous ones. This ongoing back-and-forth has caused unnecessary stress and delays.
I have acted in good faith throughout this process and have attempted to provide reasonable proof that repairs were completed. However, it now feels as though the process is being unnecessarily prolonged rather than fairly resolved.
Due to the severe storms recently experienced in Cape Town, I have now suffered further damages to my property. However, I am being prevented from claiming for these new damages because of the unresolved status of the previous rejected claim and the continuously changing documentation requirements.
As a paying policyholder, I expect transparency, consistency, and fair treatment. I am requesting that this matter now be properly escalated and resolved without any further unnecessary delays.
