Our family group of six booked for the period 2-9 January at 4 La Pirogue in Ballito, a property managed by Beach Holidays KZN, an organisation specialising in self-catering holiday rentals on the North Coast of Natal. We dealt with Michelle Dold of Beach Holidays KZN (mobile 083 602-7742) We were very disappointed by the property. It was dilapidated and run down. A few examples: two glass shelves in the fridge were broken and had been replaced by unvarnished wooden boards which was unhygienic; the fronts for door compartments in the fridge were missing which meant that items could not be stored there; the fridge ice/cold water dispenser didn't work; several saucepans had no lids; a washing machine was advertised but wasn't there; keys and adapters were missing; the sliding door mechanism for the blinds in the main bedroom were rusted up and couldn't be used; there was a cupboard safe but no key; the lighter mechanism in the gas braai didn't work. The burner plates had to be removed and the gas lit with a match which was dangerous; the indoor dining table only seated four for an apartment that was advertised for six; one of the dining table chairs was broken. On top of all this, the apartment hadn't been cleaned or the beds made when we arrived at the advertised check-in time of 3pm. Our young grandchildren were tired after a long trip and just needed to relax. This was not possible. In their website, Beach Holidays KZN state: "Our goal is to ensure that all our accommodation is kept to a high standard and maintain close contact with our homeowners. We know that travelling can be exhausting, and we will do our best to make your stay easy, comfortable and satisfying". This is a good sentiment but clearly isn't followed. Even the quickest and most basic inspection by Beach Holidays KZN would have revealed the defects listed above, but this wasn't done. The purpose of this email is to warn other holiday makers about the dangers of relying on Beach Holidays KZN's adverti*****ts but rather to verify wherever possible that the actual condition of the apartment is as advertised.
I used Herotel to provide wifi data to my house in Kenton-on-Sea in the Eastern Cape for a number of years. At first, their service was satisfactory. Recently, their service got worse. Even cancelling my service (which is not on contract but a month to month basis) was an ordeal. They ignored my requests for cancellation and kept on sending me demands for payment with the threat that if I didn't pay it would go on my credit record and stay there for 30 Years! I would advise anyone considering using Herotel to think very carefully about this. There are other options
I have used Rapid Studio for photo books and other photo/printing products. Their work is top quality and their service excellent. Everything can be done on line. I will continue to use them whenever there is an opportunity
My garage door was not functioning properly so I called in Krazi Doors, a so-called specialist on garage doors. I had to pay their service call in advance. They sent a technician who was completely incompetent. He did not do even the most basic checks - for example the condition of the batteries for the motor (when I called in a different company, this was the first thing they checked and found that they were damaged). It was a very simple job. When I took the matter up with Samantha Blignaut, a director of Krazi Doors, she told me that because I had signed the technician's call register I had acknowledged that the job had been properly done and it had been my responsibility to check that everything was in working order. As I am not a garage door specialist, I was clearly in no position to do this. She told me that if the door is still not working, it would be a different job and I would have to pay for another service call. Needless to say, I did not ask Krazi Doors to come back.
DSTV’s offering is getting more and more limited every day. I haven’t watched a DSTV programme, other than sports or the news, for about a year. Programmes are either terrible or reruns. If there ever is anything good, it’s usually on Box Office and there’s an extra charge. Fortunately we have signed up to Netflix and have lots to watch for a very reasonable price. DSTV have just put my subscription up to R986/month. This is a ridiculous amount of money for just the news and sports. It’s simply not worth it. I feel DSTV has lost the plot and I’m not surprised most of my friends have cancelled their subscriptions. Yours sincerely, Tim Anderson
When we tried to buy our Christmas turkey at Woolworths, we found an irritating little sign on the fridge door entitled telling us there will be no Woolies turkeys this year. The sign was headed: "We don't want to disappoint you". Well, Woolworths, you well and truly have disappointed us. We and many of our friends have always relied on Woolworths for all our Christmas food requirements, turkeys and everything else, but this year you let us down. The sign mentions "lots of delicious alternatives". There is no alternative for turkey at Christmas. Turkey is more than food, it's a Christmas tradition. Surely you know that? Fortunately, Thrupps were a bit more enterprising. They had a good supply of excellent turkeys. In the end, we did all our Christmas food shopping there and were impressed with the quality and range of food on offer. And the absence of silly excuses. Come on Woolworths, you can do better than this.
