Based on recent customer reviews, Outdoor Warehouse receives mixed feedback that highlights a sharp divide between helpful, knowledgeable staff at certain branches and frustrating encounters with management at others. Customers consistently praise individual employees who go the extra mile, particularly around camping gear and product expertise. However, a recurring theme involves disputes over returns, warranty claims, gift card balances, and perceived unfair pricing. Several shoppers describe management as dismissive or rude, and some raise concerns about inconsistent service treatment, leaving an impression of inconsistency across locations.

Congratulations to Outdoor Warehouse for employing what may quite possibly be the most spectacularly *********** store manager I have ever encountered. I purchased two flat ice packs and a cooler, only to discover that the ice packs perform about as effectively as warm sponges. Since they were clearly not fit for purpose, I returned them in perfect condition. The manager enthusiastically announced that he would like to ‘test’ them. After his groundbreaking scientific experiment, I returned to hear the remarkable conclusion that he ‘unfortunately’ could not refund me or offer store credit. This was particularly interesting because the large sign in the store clearly states that returns are welcome if items are in their original packaging. Apparently that policy is more of a decorative suggestion than an actual rule. So for the grand sum of R160, Outdoor Warehouse has successfully managed to lose a customer who regularly shops there. Quite an impressive achievement for one individual.

The service at the Roodepoort branch was not pleasant, we walked in and browsed for hiking shoes with Noone attending to us for almost 30 minutes while three guys standing there chatting but as soon as a Caucasian couple walked in they jumped to assist them. We ended buying but we were very ignored until we called out for someone and a lady who was not even nearby came to guide us.

I went to PE branch to engrave a Stanley mug, bought from somewhere else as ODW did not have stock. As a regular at the store, I was told to go to engraving with no mention about a double charge because it was not bought at the store. Only on payment I was told that and after some debate I under duress paid the R150 instead of R75. This misled me by not made the double cost known prior to job, exploitation in its worst form. It was a favorite shop of mine but need to review my choices, future customers be aware. My ODW card number is ODWRA66597

Bought 2 Stanley cups from them and one has stopped keeping drinks warm. Tried to claim on the lifetime warranty from them but I have to pay R150 for courier fees and then not even sure what will happen next. Also told that it will take up to 3 months. I can buy a new lizard cup for just over R200. When I bought it they even used the lifetime warranty as a selling point.

I received 2 Outdoor Warehouse gift cards from 2 different people and have never used the cards . When I went to Outdoor Warehouse Stoneridge they said that both cards have a zero balance - I know the gift cards haven't been used because they have been in my wallet the whole time . Absolutely dismissive attitude from the staff , they just said sorry the system says the balance is zero there is nothing they can do , they cannot even provide me with a transaction history to prove that the cards were used !
