Today we had a very disappointing experience at Kota Joe Alberton. My husband struggles with low blood sugar, and when his sugar drops, having an Energade or Powerade helps stabilise it quickly. On our way from Mall of the South to lunch, we stopped to buy a Powerade for him. We arrived at Kota Joe’s intending to spend the afternoon there — ordering drinks, food, and desserts while enjoying a quiet Mother’s Day lunch and a few games of chess with our son. My husband brought the unfinished Powerade in with him while we waited to order. Instead of being approached professionally, we were met with poor service and dismissive attitudes from both waiters and management. After my husband finished the drink, we continued waiting to be served, but were repeatedly ignored when asking for assistance. Eventually, we were informed that they refused to serve us because of the Powerade. What made the situation even more upsetting was being approached by bouncers to escort us out while we were trying to explain that we had every intention of spending money there for the entire afternoon — far more than the value of the R15 Powerade that was brought in for medical reasons. The biggest question we were left with afterwards was this: does the owner of Kota Joe’s know how their waiters and management treat customers? It is extremely disappointing that a small bottle of Powerade was valued more than customer care, understanding, and basic hospitality. A simple conversation and a little compassion could have handled the situation professionally and respectfully. Sadly, after today’s experience, Kota Joe’s Alberton has lost our family as customers. We would rather travel further to support establishments that value service, communication, and basic human decency.

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. On Saturday evening, my best friend, her partner, my partner, and her little sister decided to go to Kota Joe after watching the Pirates soccer game. We were genuinely excited to end our Saturday there and experience the restaurant. We arrived at 8:30pm and were warmly seated by a friendly waiter. We asked whether we would be rushed out if we were still eating at 10:00pm, and he assured us we wouldn’t be. However, shortly after seating us, he disappeared. About five minutes later, a group of white customers arrived, and suddenly four or five waiters were attending to their table. Meanwhile, we waited over 15 minutes before anyone came to assist us. When a waitress eventually came to take our drink order (around 8:45pm), she immediately emphasized that because the restaurant closes at 10:00pm, any food arriving after 9:00pm would be packaged as takeaway. Our drinks only arrived at 9:35pm — nearly 50 minutes later. During that entire time, no one checked on us or asked if we were okay. We placed our food order about 10 minutes after ordering drinks, yet we waited over an hour for it to arrive. The food only came after 10:00pm. The constant reminders that the restaurant was closing made us feel extremely unwelcome. While waiting, my best friend and I went to the bathroom, only to find it dirty and without toilet paper. We wondered whether cleaning simply stops because closing time is approaching. For a family restaurant, the bathroom location also felt unsafe. As a woman, I did not feel comfortable there. On our way back to the table, a waiter rudely asked if we wanted the bill — before our food had even arrived. When my friend asked whether the food was ready, she was ignored. When we got back to our table, there was still no food. Although we ordered before the other table, their food arrived well before ours. When our food finally came, we asked for the bill, which again took a very long time. The person who brought it was not our server and had a clear attitude. After paying, we were left standing without assistance, and as we exited, we were questioned in an accusatory tone about whether we had actually paid. We decided to take the food home — and unfortunately, it tasted terrible. Most of it was bland and had no flavour at all. If your service is going to be rushed and unwelcoming from 8:30pm onwards, then perhaps your trading hours should be adjusted. The overall experience was disappointing, uncomfortable, and far below standard. Very poor service.

Good day I bought a beef prego from Kota Joe Boksburg. It was the last straw as it was absolutely pathetic to say the least. I paid R90 for piece of bread that tasted old, stomped full of chips and with a measely 48g piece of chewy meat. The previous times we had bad food I decided to let it go. But not anymore. I took it back to the Boksburg Kota’s and the manager said that they don’t do refunds. If it was a problem with the product he could replace it (above mentioned said there was a problem). He said it’s store recipe. Well then they are apparently not putting in 100g as he stated. You are more than welcome to contact me Willem

Today Thursday 22 January 2026, I arrived at Kota Joe road house in Alberton between 16:45 and 6pm. I ordered a full rack of ribs with chips, kiddies steak roll burger coming also with chips.I was assisted by a lady called Thando. Before my order was to be executed I called the manager(Joseph) to address my concerns about the chips they serve. The scale has gone down terribly and the prices keeps going up. I always come here with my family. The manager **** to me when he said that he will make sure that we get normal scale of chips. I am very dissapointed with this road house as I feel that we are subbotaged and it's not fair at all. If the road house can't get enough potatoes toerve their customers, why are they not closing down, Infact not up the proses and serve us the exact quantity according to the price they charge. Will make sure i spread the word about the quantity they are now serving here. Dissatisfied customer. I know I am not the only one with this complaint.

I would like to lodge a complaint against Kota Joe. I ordered a pizza & wings at Kota Joe Edenval , car service. I was happy w my order until I took a bite on the wings , I chewed on a stone which led to my Brace chipping off it I really had a bad experience therefore I’m still in pain and I now have to pay for the broken brace. I sent them an email a week ago , I received a response saying I should send a DM , which I did and still no feedback whatsoever. I’ve been sending follow up emails and no response still !! I’m honestly not happy not satisfied with Kota Joe as a regular customer!!
