Hippo.co.za
Based on recent customer reviews, Hippo.co.za is drawing significant frustration from users who feel their personal information is being distributed to multiple third parties after requesting a quote. A recurring theme is relentless spam calls and emails from insurers and unrelated businesses following a single enquiry. Customers consistently mention concerns around POPIA compliance, opaque consent processes, and discrepancies between quoted and final premiums. Service breakdowns with medical aid advisors, unanswered follow-ups, and incorrect product recommendations also feature prominently. A small number of reviewers acknowledge helpful, knowledgeable consultants by name.

Do not use these guys for quotes!!! Once they have your number they sell it to spammers and you will be harassed for months with spam calls. If you see the other similar complaints on this forum they say the same thing to everyone. We're sorry. Your complaint is escalated. They don't do anything!

Used Hippo to search for quotes . . . . . the amount of spam calls I got after is beyond ridiculous.

suspecting how hippo suggest companies at the top? is it based only on the cost of subscription on car tracking / insurances and motor warranties? I've seen latest reviews particularly negative on #Beame #TeleMatics #Powerfleet and still the same company is suggested on the top of the list. I'm struggling to clear wrong credit review impacted by difficulties as their cancellation is not transparant and systematic - I presume there are lot of human errors, including "not responding to emails" in the cancellation process. Keen to understand hippo.co.za recommendations are based on considerable factors in.

You guys are breaching the law..... I have logged a formal complaint with the Ombud on this matter as I cannot keep explaining this to " First for Woman" that call me each month, usually the first week when an auto Hippo request is completed on something that I did 5 - 6 year ago?? Automatically submitted request which I did not do, this happens each month, each #### month.........

Do not share information on the Hippo site.... Against my better judgement I filled out my information on their portal. I have been pestered for 3 days solid by literally hundreds of car insurance sales people, life insurance salespersons and investment companies. I wanted comparative pricing to the insurance I already had, the pricing that I received from Hippo and then the phone calls confirming exactly the information filled out was completely different. With every phone call lasting in excess of 26 minutes each. It seems that the information I filled in on the website was sold to everyone and their dog. With one insurer, whilst I was on the phone with one of their agents I recieved 18 phone calls from the same company while I was confirming what I had filled out on the Hippo site, as well as other incoming calls from other insurers. Then at the end of the discussion, the premium quoted was over R600 more than what was initially quoted on the list sent by Hippo..... What a total waste of time. One of the so called great insurers increased the premium by more than R200 pm just because of the colour of the vehicle I was buying. If I remember correctly on the Hippo questionaire there was no mention of colour of vehicle anywhere. I do not believe that Hippo actually gives you the best deal, they are driven by money... all the insurance companies that quoted are the mainstream heavy marketers that spend huge amounts of money on marketing, none of which were even close to the insurance company I signed a policy with. So much for the POPI Act.
