Autogen Medical Aid Gap Cover

I would strongly caution anyone considering Auto & General Medical Gap Cover (Autogen Medical Gap Cover).

I paid premiums faithfully for more than 24 months, believing that the cover would assist with the shortfall between my medical aid and private medical expenses in the event of a serious emergency.

Unfortunately, after being involved in a serious bicycle and motor vehicle accident, my experience with the claims process was extremely disappointing. Despite submitting legitimate accident-related medical claims, there always seemed to be another exclusion, technicality, tariff issue, or reason provided for why certain claims would not be paid.

Instead of receiving meaningful support during a traumatic medical situation, I experienced ongoing frustration, delays, and repeated repudiations of claims. In my personal experience, the policy did not deliver the level of protection and financial assistance that was expected when I signed up.

For me, it has felt like a complete waste of money.

I would advise potential clients to read the policy wording very carefully, especially regarding exclusions, specialist consultations, tariff limitations, and what is actually covered after a serious accident.
