This business now goes as Create-a-lot. I attended a royal icing class which was advertised as a Christmas cookie decorating class. Unfortunately, the content of the class was changed without any prior notice. The class description indicated that we would be taught three royal icing consistencies. However, only two were demonstrated during the session. In addition, there was very little structured teaching, and when students asked questions they were often dismissed in a sarcastic manner, which made the learning environment uncomfortable. Another concern is that certificates of completion were promised to attendees, but none were provided — neither printed nor digital. I have noticed that certificates appear to have been issued to other students according to social media posts, but I have not received one. After the class I attempted to contact the organiser via WhatsApp to ask about the certificate and to raise my concerns. Instead of resolving the issue, I was blocked, which made it impossible to communicate further with the owner. I paid a significant amount to attend this class based on what was advertised, and unfortunately the experience did not match those expectations. I would appreciate it if the organiser could respond and address these concerns, particularly regarding the promised certificate and the discrepancy between what was advertised and what was delivered.

I have attended several baking, chef, and culinary institutions before coming to Charmaine, and I can honestly say she outnumbers them all by far! From the very first class, I was deeply impressed by her honesty and transparency. Charmaine demonstrates everything step by step - no shortcuts, no hidden techniques, and no so-called "secret cake mixes" with unpleasant tastes like I experienced at other schools. What you see is what you learn, and what you learn truly works. Her training is real, authentic, and done with integrity. She gives her students her full knowledge, skill, and heart. That alone sets her apart from any other institution I have attended. I truly believe God chose Charmaine for me. He gave me the best teacher a human could ask for.Thank you so much, beautiful Charmaine - I mean every word I say. Your classes are like magic!

I recently attended one of Charmaine’s classes at Create-a-lot and what an incredible experience it was! From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed and inspired. Charmaine explains everything so clearly and patiently, making even detailed techniques feel achievable. Her passion for sugar art and baking truly shines through in the way she teaches. She doesn’t just show you how — she makes sure you understand why. The class atmosphere was relaxed, friendly, and encouraging. I left feeling confident, motivated, and so proud of what I created. It’s amazing how much you learn in just a few hours! If you are thinking about booking a class — do it. Whether you are a beginner or already have experience, you will walk away with new skills and a boost of confidence. Thank you, Charmaine, for sharing your talent and knowledge so generously. I can’t wait to attend another class! i highly recommend Create-a-lot baking studio!

The owner/presenter of the course was extremely rude. She told us to ask questions, but ignored you or made a remark on your question, rather than answer you. All the photo's on her Facebook page, shows people with 8 or more cupcakes and designs, but when she had given us 7 cupcakes, of which two, we were told to do the same design and the last to do as we pleased, she told us to come for the group photo, because we were finished. You are also told on her page, that you receive a set of piping heads. What you are not told, is that these are not the one's she has just (supposedly) taught you to use, but a random set, that is sponsored for her. So the little you are taught, you cannot apply at home. The course cost R1500, lasted only 3 hours and we went home with 7 cupcakes and a set of useless piping heads.

In all my life as an adult, I have never been treated like this. When you enquire about the class, she comes across as extremely friendly, very helpful, and understanding. However, when you arrive at her house on the day of the class, it is absolutely the opposite. You had to wait in a separate room, no warm welcome, nothing. At one stage, she said to us that maybe she must stop talking and just do the demo without her voice because we are worse than grade 1's and also suggested that maybe she must speak another language. If you don't understand, she grabs your tools and does the task herself without giving you the opportunity to learn. I respectfully asked a question at the beginning of the class during her cake baking demonstration. I was politely asked to refrain from questioning and was told she would not discuss "products." This seemed inconsistent, as she marketed all her pans and products at the end of the class. I've noticed that all her reviews are hidden on the Facebook page, and it's not possible to comment on the class adverti*****ts. This raises a concern. Please do some research; many other students have had similar experiences. I would definitely not recommend any of her classes.
