My experience with Aon is super frustrating. I had one major water damage claim that dragged out for more than a year to which several additional claims were added. Mostly due to the incompetence of Santam who kept on sending contractors who didn't know what they were doing. It took at least 4 contractors on different dates to eventually find the one leak. I was also asked if I would like to try out a new Hotbot installed on my geyser to manage water heating and to monitor for any faults. This Hotbot is managed by yet another company and whenever there is a message about a fictitious water leak, it takes 5 - 10 calls before someone can fix it. In a few of these cases, Santam would send out a plumber only for them to say that they don't work on the Hotbot and that someone else is required. Last year September I was notified by Aon that they are increasing my excess by more than 500% due to all my claims. When I asked for detailed records of these claims, I was sent a list of 13 claims on a spreadsheet for which I had documentation for 2 of the claims. There were 2 obvious duplications and to date I am still waiting on the rest of the documentation. I don't understand how insurance companies still don't have digital documentation that the policy holder has access to. What are they hiding?
I bought a jacket on Instagram after thinking that I am buying from a local site and therefore a local supplier. The actual Instagram account is no longer active. The website https://naomari-capetown.co.za/ seems like a local site but it’s not. IP address indicates Canada but it’s because they use Shopify as the domain. I was also automatically registered on a site “Shop Pay” without my consent. I didn’t actually save my checkout details – I never do. A day later I got another email that the order is on its way with a tracking number that looked like it was from a Chinese company. 3 weeks later when I tried to cancel the order, after not receiving anything, I was informed it is actually on its way and they can’t refund an order in transit. After receiving the item, I emailed them to tell them that the item didn’t look like the marketed product and that I’d like to get a refund. After at least 3 attempts to temp me with more discount offers on the website instead of a refund, they told me I can return it to China at my own cost. This clearly seems quite risky since I don’t have any guarantee of a refund. Further investigations revealed that the Chinese company open website across the globe to resemble “local” companies. The Naomari Melbourne site has received many bad reviews and was taken down at a stage. Interestingly one of the first emails to let me know the shipment is almost on its way, said the following “We're excited to inform you that your recent order: #9999 with Naomari Melbourne is almost ready to ship!” My concerns wrt to ecommerce sites like these: • The website is only 70 days old today, registered in the Netherlands (NL) but the registrar company is German (de). • The bank transaction also seems to have some connection with the Netherlands (NAOMARI CAPE TOWN ARHNHEM NL) • Rob the local market from opportunities with misleading marketing (as local) and sub-standard product • The automatically register your details to the Shop Pay website without consent • An easy way to gain multiple customer records with payment details to be used in possible *****ulent ways
