I app**** for credit at Russells early April and was approved as i wanted to purchase a couch. The saleslady called me a few times to come in and purchase but i wasn't sure as to which couch i wanted. Later in April i knew which couch i wanted so i went to the Russells Pmb Main Street store I had a look at the couch they didn't have it on the sales floor so the sales lady googled it on her PC and I showed her the one i wanted. She said they have it she then checked if my credit application was still available but it had expired. I again asked her if they have the couch she said they did so I told her i will come back after work to reapply for credit as i was on my lunch break. This is April 28 I went back after work she processed the application and said it was declined. I left the store on my way home I decided that i want to lay-by the couch so i drove back it was 5:10pm she said I can't do a lay-by because they cashup at 4.45pm. WHY ADVERSTISE CLOSING TIMES AT 6PM WHEN YOU CASHUP AT 4:45PM? I went back the next day April 29 to do the lay-by she then told me the cost of the delivery I said that's fine i will do the lay-by. NOW AFTER ALL THE RUNNING UP AND DOWN she tells me "THEY DON'T HAVE STOCK" I asked her so if my credit application was approved yesterday how was i going to get the couch. She then denies telling me that she said they had stock. She and the manager are then having a conversation in ZULU in front of me as if I'm not there. I had to ask the manager what was she saying . She says the sales lady said she didn't tell me she had stock. I asked her why would i be coming to the store so many times if she told me she didn't have stock. the Manager has the audacity to tell me "IT'S MY WORD AGAINST HERS" The staff are absolutely unprofessional and don't care about the customer likes it's like you must take any couch as long as they make a sale.. Both the saleslady and the manager need customer training. PLEASE VIEW YOUR CAMERA FOOTAGE AND SEE HOW I'M STANDING THERE WHILST THE TWO OF THEM ARE COMMUNICATING IN ZULU. I did purchase a couch from Russells previously but didn't receive this pathetic service. I will not return to this branch.
I initially wrote a negative report on Hello Peter regarding Lewis stores. My opinion of Lewis stores has not changed and I will still not shop at their stores again BUT I would like to take the time to thank Carol Joemath for her exceptional service. From day one when she contacted me regarding my complaint she was pleasant, polite and helpful. She gave me options to solving the complaint and she followed through just as she said she will. She made contact with me many times to resolve my complaint which was finally sorted. A suggestion to Lewis Carol should train the other consultants on how to deal with queries because if I dealt with Carol when I first phoned the head office i would never have written that negative review. The other consultant was unhelpful and had an arrogant tone. Thank you Carol for all your help I truly appreciate you helping me solve this issue. With your exceptional work ethics and dedication you will truly achieve a lot in life. Thank you.
PATHETIC, ********* SERVICE FROM BEARES FURNITURE CHURCH STREET PIETERMARITZBURG. I had 2 accounts with Beares as I bought 2 fridges on different days. I had 2 debits going off my bank account and from March 2024 to December 2024 the debit orders were split to both accounts. However, in January 2025 THEIR ACCOUNTS DEPARTMENT MESSED UP MY ACCOUNT as they took both debit orders and credited my 1 account thus my other account went into arrears. I only found out about this in October 2025 when they phoned to say my account is in arrears and I was shocked as I know that 2 debits go off my bank account every month. When I went into the Church Street branch to query my account, I was told that they had made an error and put both debits to the one account, so the one account is paid up and the other is in arrears. Today I phoned for a settlement balance and was SHOCKED to hear that my balance is now R25000. I purchased for R22000. I paid 10 instalments totally R12700, but my account is now R25000 due to their MISTAKE. As I was reading the Hello Peter reviews, I read about another lady Beverley B who had the same problem as me in 2019. I wonder if Lewis is purposely putting our accounts in arrears as this lady had a problem in 2019 and 6 years later, I am having the same problem with them. Surely their accounts people should have knowledge about working in a finance department. Are they this DUMB to keep making the same mistake? Also Why did they not pick up earlier that my account is in arrears they only phoned me 10 months later to say my account is in arrears. They now harassing me with SMS about my account being in arrears instead of them taking responsibility for messing up my credit report. Strange that for 10 months they kept quiet. Did they want the interest to accumulate on my account? After what they did to me I will never TRUST them again. I purchased my couch from Russell's on a 6-month account with no problem at all I will continue buying my furniture from Russell's as they are TRUSTWORTHY. I WILL NEVER EVER IN MY ENTIRE LIFE GO BACK TO ANY OF THE LEWIS STORES EVER AGAIN.
