Disgusted by the lady at Polokwane Branch. Why are we told that spca polokwane does not operate outside of polokwane? Spoke to an old lady who was rude and judgemental and asked misleading questions to make the conversation justly uncomfortable. I mean for someone who actually holds a degree in animal health and welfare specifically studied because of love for animals to be judged because they dont reside in polokwane suburbs. SPCA can do better to note that theres people out there who can take care of fur babies but dont stay in fancy places as per their judgements.

Dear Inspector/Chairperson, I am writing to file a formal complaint regarding a dog at Maraboestraat 178, Rooihuiskraal, Centurion, which in my opinion is being continuously subjected to abuse and neglect. The dog (Jack Russel) cries every day from the time the owners leave the property until they return, and sometimes even continues after the people are already at home. This goes on all day, and other neighbors have already started accusing me of being the owner of the dog. This behavior of the dog indicates possible anxiety or a lack of adequate care, attention, and nurturing. I have already reported the situation to the SPCA Centurion via email several years ago, without any feedback or action. I even offered to take the dog in and care for it, but the offer was refused. I urgently request that this matter be investigated and that appropriate steps be taken to ensure the well-being of the dog. I urgently request that this matter be investigated and that appropriate steps be taken to ensure the dog's welfare. Thank you for your urgent attention to this matter. Many of the neighbors around the people work from their homes; for everyone, it is not only a great irritation, but also a major concern that people keep animals when they do not look after them and properly care for them. Thank you for your attention to this urgent and serious matter. Thursday morning I called SPCA on there emergency number at 7am asking for assistance and one of the employees told me they can't assist me over the phone and when I did speak to someone who can help me they say they don't have a ambulance to come fetch my sick puppy I thought they cared about our animals because they have an emergency but I see truly SPCA will never have my support again because three days later they send someone to check up on my pup and he was already dead I was calling from 7am until 4pm asking for help. SPCA you are just a usless as the hospital our pets have to die before you check up on them and when you do have a vehicle they you want to put them down 👎I'm very upset and I will never trust SPCA

In 2021 I've reached out to the SPCA the nearest one to us is Kimberley cause I discovered that cats are being killed in the cruelest of ways here in Upington. This after my daughter brought home this small kitten one night that was wandering in the street and some boys wanted to stone it to death. So I took the kitten in. After that day I became more aware of the issues these little animals are facing since growing up we've only had dogs so I never took an interest in them. That's when I saw the need for someone to step in so I did and I took in more cats. Problem came in I'm not working and where I stayed the person staying with me didn't like cats. That's why I reached out to the SPCA asking for assistance cause I wasn't just gonna walk away and leave these animals to fight a battle they weren't winning. The one in Kimberley told me that in order for them to be able to assist me with these animals I need to drive them all the way to Kimberley bear in mind I'm unemployed. They gave me a number that I've contacted and I did send an email as well and was informed by the liaison officer of the SPCA head office back then. I must remember that the SPCA isn't a government institution kinda like you people just want everything for free. None of them ever assisted me in helping these poor animals in fact I got the message that if you're an animal in South Africa and you're not in an area where there's an SPCA don't even bother expecting help from them. I went as far as telling these people that I've been taken to court by the person I stayed with cause she wanted these animals out and I was refusing to let them die in such a cruel manner. Not even that caused the SPCA to assist me so I went through hell and ended up on the street all cause I was trying to help these animals. That's when I saw this might be the reason no one ever tried helping cause you're literally alone up until I met Christine Maritz but there's really just so much she could do. I'm really deeply disappointed in the SPCA and the fact that they're not making it clear that they only help animals in areas where they're situated cause if it's advertised in that manner everyone will be aware not to ask for help if there's no SPCA. I'm now in an area and yes I still have cats where dogs are being mistreated so much so that I stepped in and was threatened by grown men. Reason why I was threatened cause I now took two dogs in and when they bark inside the yard they get thrown with bottles an stoned cause they're making noise. It's not just grown ups doing this even children are so I'm fighting everyday with someone. Some of these dogs are in terrible shape you can actually see their ribs and when it's storming outside they're left in the rain. What gets to me is I don't even know why people around here have these animals if they're so mistreated cause they don't even feed them. These dogs are in the streets the whole day looking for food and I can't help them cause I'm still unemployed and the little I do is nothing. This is the first area I stay in where dogs bark 24/7 and also fight a lot cause some of these owners walk in the street with their dogs not on leashes. There are even pitbulls that's are walking around like that with their owners just today there was a case where a pitbull attacked another dog in their yard. The other day two pitbulls was outside the yard and one of them fought with this really sickly dog and everyone was standing watching and I ran to them cause I saw he was gonna kill that one. He's still a young pitbull so I managed to seperate him from that one with the broom stick I had. Dogs in this area are being neglected and abuse and no one cares not even the SPCA cause I'm sure they'll give me the same story like they've been doing since 2021 there's no SPCA in Upington. So I need for the SPCA to please make it clear to the people of South Africa that the only animals you help are those in areas where you're situated.

Heartbreaking Experience Trying to Reclaim My Lost Cat. I am writing this review regarding my experience with the Kloof and Highway SPCA after finding my missing cat, Champ. Champ went missing, and we immediately began searching our area, putting up posters, and asking around our neighbourhood. We had recently relocated and were still unfami**** with the area. By chance, a family friend took me to the SPCA approximately 30 days later, and that is when I found Champ there. I was told I needed to complete a lost pet form and provide proof of ownership, which I did. From there, there were continuous back-and-forth emails. Responses often took up to three days at a time, which significantly delayed the process. Despite providing proof of ownership and proof of continuous communication showing that we were actively trying to reclaim him, I have now been informed that because it was beyond the 7-day holding period, Champ has legally become the property of the SPCA. I am being asked to pay R4,500 to reclaim him. Alternatively, I have been told that the family who found him has reserved him, and legally there is nothing further we can do. What I am struggling to understand is that I was informed the R4,500 amount is for boarding costs. However, I have also been told that if adopted out, his adoption fee would be R950 — a drastically lower amount. It is extremely difficult to comprehend why the registered owner, who has provided proof and has been actively trying to retrieve her pet, is expected to pay significantly more than someone adopting him. At no stage did we abandon our cat. We searched, we posted, we asked around, and once we discovered where he was, I immediately followed the required process. This cat is not “just a pet” to us. Champ was found by my husband shortly after he lost his father. He has been part of our healing journey and our family. He is our child. This situation is not just administrative — it is deeply personal and emotionally painful. For an organisation that stands for animal welfare and claims to want what is best for the animal, he continues to sit in a cage away from his family while this matter is unresolved. We have also been informed that he may be adopted by another family — people who know nothing about his history, his trauma, his personality, or the bond he has with us. His companion, Boots, misses him terribly. Where is the compassion and understanding for reunifying animals with the families who love them? From where I stand, this feels less about welfare and more about finances — and that is incredibly painful to accept.

I was told they do not put dogs down. I dropped my two dogs for personal reasons by them being told they do not put dogs down and will they be looked for an adoption option as my only reason to leave them there. I left them the 23 January and returned 26 January to retrieve my two dogs realizing they put dogs down, and was I told that I can not get them back and was refused to see the dogs. I have a friend who after 8 days form the 23rd of January wanting to go and adopt the dogs at the SPCA Centurion and was she also told they have no record of where the dogs are. So, in short, they were put down this is not cruel it is inhumane and why was I not informed? I would not recommend people who want to leave dogs at SPCA thinking they will be adopted, they are in for a rude awakening.
