I engaged Employment Law Veritas / Labour Law Veritas and was provided with a “No Win No Fee Agreement” and a Power of Attorney. The agreement provides for a 25% fee and refers to “legal fees”, yet no admitted attorney, advocate, or Legal Practice Council (LPC) registration details were provided despite requests. By their own description, they operate as “legal consultants” rather than admitted legal practitioners. The Power of Attorney grants very broad authority, including the ability to settle matters and receive funds on the client’s behalf. From the wording provided, there appear to be limited safeguards ensuring ongoing client involvement in decisions. I was also unable to verify the entity on the CIPC register under the names provided, and this information was not clearly disclosed in their documentation or correspondence. Key questions regarding legal status, practitioner registration, and compliance with contingency fee requirements remain unanswered. Prospective clients should carefully verify: • who is legally authorised to represent them • whether any fee arrangement complies with South African law • and what authority is being granted over their matter and funds ***Proceed with caution and ensure you fully understand the implications before signing. Phone Legal Aid for free on their toll-free hotline for an opinion on the POA and contract. ***

I find the consultants to be very dismissive and rude about cases over the phone. When I was trying to understand how constructive dismissal works ,the consultant said something along the lines of “just because a contract states something doesn’t mean employers cannot sue you”. When I proceed to tell him I do not understand because what’s the point of a contract then? And he proceeded to tell me “I have another meeting hurry up and take my email” That is absolutely unprofessional and this is the second time I’m experiencing divisiveness from their consultants. Anyways, I found other lawyers that were not as rude.

Good day, I find it very unprofessional and disappointing that such a big firm as Employment Law Veritas did not see that this case has merits from the onset, and had I not sent you an email on the 23rd of January 2025 following the con/arb in December 2023 you were not prepared for this case and left it for last minute to tell me a day and half before the case that you won't represent me is extremely appalling. You could've atleast afforded me a chance to look for representation elsewhere. This goes to show how ill prepared lawyers you are. The lawyer that called me on the 24th of January 2025 was so unprofessional I could've sworn his employed by massmart as he was singing them praises The consultation I had on Saturday aswell, the guys consulting didn't have the case file nor a clue what was happening in the case. I hope you don't treat all your clients in this manner. Regards
