I’m not happy with Imakhamu funerals

Hi my name is Vusi Motloung. Last year 2025 I was attending a funeral in tokoza n my car was parked with other cars. Later during the day when Imakhamu trucks came to fetch the furniture the truck hit my car while it was stationary. I reported the issue and I was told to do a quotation. I did the quotation from vw and gave sis Thembi n Tsepo from Imakhamu. I haven’t been paid my money for the damaged car n no one is taking responsibility. I went there to their offices and I met mr makamu himself n he said I must deal with Tsepo the transport manager but still no help. I’ve used my own money to fix my car.

Frustrated and annoyed

Terrible service, poor communication. I was helping my grandmother with her claim sent the documents and everything they tell us the person we trying to claim for isn't covered. My question is how does our documents say that we covered that person and they tell us a different story. They still failing to send us proof that we didn't cover our family, they promise to call us back but never do.now they don't answer our calls. I would never recommend anyone taking up this funeral policy with imakamu totally ****ming old people making them believe that they can help them but fail to deliver.

Unacceptable service and wrong body delivered.

I’m writing this with deep disappointment and frustration regarding the service we received on the 16th of August. What was supposed to be a dignified and respectful farewell for our grandmother turned into a complete nightmare, one that left our family traumatized, disrespected, and deeply hurt. From the very beginning, things started going wrong. The tent and mats we paid for were not only delivered late, but they were also dirty ,completely unfit for a funeral setup. That already showed us a lack of care, but we tried to be patient and understanding. However, things took a much darker and more shocking turn when it came time to receive my grandmother’s body. They were supposed to deliver her remains by 15:00 — not only did they show up four hours late, but when the coffin arrived and was opened for the family to view the body, we were horrified to realize that it wasn’t our grandmother. I told the man who brought the body that this was not our loved one, and his response was, “People change when they pass on.” That alone was one of the most insensitive and dismissive things someone could ever say to a grieving family. This wasn’t just a small error, we spent the entire night with the wrong body in our home, performing sacred rituals, speaking our final words, and mourning someone who wasn’t even our relative. That’s not only emotionally devastating, it’s also spiritually disturbing. Our culture and beliefs do not take this lightly. These are not mistakes you can sweep under the rug. The next morning, more families arrived to say their final goodbyes, and that’s when everyone saw for themselves that the body wasn’t our grandmother’s. Imagine the confusion, the pain, the horror. We were forced to relive the grief all over again, now with added anger and disbelief. This mistake has already caused irreversible emotional damage and unnecessary financial costs. Rituals were done, money was spent, and now there are spiritual consequences we have to deal with, all because their team couldn’t do something as basic as deliver the correct body. But it didn’t stop there. The funeral service was scheduled to start at 09:00 and end by 11:00. Their team only arrived at the graveyard at 11:20. That alone caused us to overrun and delay everything. To make matters worse, the he**** got lost on the way to the cemetery, even though we gave them the location well in advance. How can they run a funeral service and not know where their destination is? Then, just when we thought we could finally lay our grandmother to rest, we found out that they didn't bring the casket lowering device. They had to borrow it from another funeral parlour, disturbing a completely different family’s service in the process. Do you understand how chaotic, disrespectful, and shameful that is? They made a joke out of my grandmother’s funeral. We are now stuck with the trauma of having had the wrong corpse in our home. To make matters worse, their team brought that body into our house,we used the tree branch, something that carries heavy spiritual meaning in our culture. That brought a bad omen into our home, and now we are the ones left to deal with the consequences. What are they going to do about this? How will IMakamu Funerals take responsibility for this string of disrespect, disorganization, and spiritual violation? And what about the family of the wrong body that was delivered to us, have they even been informed? Do they know where their loved one was taken, or that rituals were performed by strangers? Shouldn’t they come to our home to perform their own rites and call back their loved one’s spirit? This entire experience was unacceptable and heartbreaking. We trusted Imakamu Funerals with one of the most important moments of our lives ,saying goodbye to someone we loved dearly. You broke that trust in the worst way possible. We demand accountability. We deserve answers. And most importantly, we want to know how they plan to make this right for us, and for the family of the wrongly delivered body.

lack of professionalism, poor communication, and disorganization

Firstly, there was a significant lack of communication from the funeral planner, Mr. Makamu. Despite repeated attempts to obtain key information such as the scheduled time for the funeral, I received no response. Additionally, I was informed about optional funeral upgrades, such as tents and toilets, only after the services were completed and the pricing had already been settled, which caused unnecessary confusion and disappointment. Secondly, the handling of the body was profoundly unprofessional. The body was scheduled to be delivered at 3 PM; however, it arrived three hours late. We had to personally fetch the driver about 10 km away because he was lost due to the inability to afford airtime for Google Maps. This negligence caused unnecessary stress during an already difficult time. Furthermore, the funeral service itself was poorly coordinated. The service was scheduled from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM at the graveside, but the he**** only arrived after 2:00 PM. This delay was due to Makamu’s failure to allocate drivers for the funeral, which disrupted the entire schedule. When we arrived at the gravesite, we found that the grave was flooded with approximately one meter of water. We had to improvise by bringing buckets and work suits to manually remove the water, as no one had checked the grave beforehand. This oversight displayed a lack of preparation and care. Additionally, although our funeral package included tents, gazebos, and walk mats at the graveside, we found these being used by another funeral service. The supervisor and he**** driver merely stated there was nothing they could do, and we were forced to wait at the back of the tent. To make matters worse, Makamu did not have any coffin lowering device available, and we along with Makamu’s supervisor had to borrow equipment from another funeral parlor at the grave, rushing through the process due to time constraints. We never had time to mourn, as we were micromanaging the entire Makamu’s team. Makamu’s funeral services was below-par even as per the minim standard set by FIRA (Funeral Industry Regulatory Authority) and the SA Government Code of conduct for funeral service Practitioners.

No pay out

I’m extremely disappointed with Imakamu funerals. My grand mother passed on and I submitted a claim, guess what it’s been more than 48 hours since I submitted my claim and yet no pay out. When I call they taking me from pillar to post. I spoke to Hilda who by the way promised to call me as soon as I made her aware that I submitted my claim on time which on their side they submitted it late. It’s my grandmothers funeral this weekend and Hilda never called me back. I’m definitely gonna be shopping around for a funeral policy that prioritises its customers not money and bad service.

What a Disgusting service

My aunty has a funeral plan with them and she covered my cousin and he passed on February 2025. She sent her grand daughter there to claim she never got assisted awaited they said she was owing as she already left to prepare for the funeral. She went to find out why they say she is owing they changed the story that the lady that assisted her granddaughter resigned and did not submit the documents she was assisted by Dineo imagine who is the regional manager told my aunty that she must wait for her payment that was in March. Yester I took all my aunt policy document called 087 23 0064 does not exist HO office no,0783092525 rings forever no answer,067 427 5950 it's Dineo no the RM she answers and I asked can I speak to someone senior especially in finance she said I can speak to her immediately when I explain what I'm calling about she said yes I know the story can I call you back I'm was like ok I agreed she never called after 3 hours I called her again she said. She is still busy with some family. Today I called to asked you never called me I asked her I'm giving you guys to correct this matter or I'm taking this further she was so rude that I'm not giving her a chance to explain simply because I told her that as Manager you do follow up on your clients as she told me that she asked a colleague to call my aunt so since no called up until I called yesterday she got fustrated with my questions she hang up on me.
