I purchased an ASUS TUF laptop from Evetech approximately one year ago. The screen developed a fault and was sent in for repair through Evetech. Upon return, a new fault appeared — the USB port is no longer functioning and the Wi-Fi intermittently stops working, a problem that did not exist before the repair. I formally requested a refund under Section 56(3) of the Consumer Protection Act No. 68 of 2008, which entitles a consumer to a refund or replacement when a further defect is discovered within three months of a repair. Evetech's response was to ask me to rebook the unit for yet another repair and stated that "technology can be unpredictable" — which is not a legal defence under the CPA. I have formally declined another repair and requested a full refund. Evetech has thus far failed to honour my statutory rights. I am giving Evetech 5 business days to resolve this before escalating to the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud.
