I purchased a 2019 Volkswagen Amarok 3.0 V6 from Espag Automotive in March 2026 and the experience has been extremely disappointing. Within roughly three weeks, the vehicle developed multiple faults, including engine warning lights, and ultimately suffered a catastrophic mechanical failure that left me stranded and requiring a tow truck while I was in the process of returning it to the dealership. I later discovered the vehicle had allegedly been modified (downpipes and software remapping), which was never disclosed during the sale. I subsequently received confirmation that the warranty sold with the vehicle was effectively void because of these modifications. Had this been disclosed upfront, I would never have purchased the vehicle. What has been most disappointing is the complete lack of accountability and customer care throughout this process. Rather than trying to resolve the matter constructively, the dealership focused primarily on denying liability and shifting blame. To this day, the owner, Pieter Espag, has not even had the decency to pick up the phone and contact me personally regarding a vehicle that failed within weeks of purchase. I understand that used vehicles can develop faults, but a major engine failure within weeks, combined with undisclosed modifications and an invalid warranty, is simply unacceptable. The matter has now been escalated to the finance institution and the Motor Industry Ombudsman of South Africa. Based on my experience, I would strongly advise buyers to proceed with EXTREME CAUTION!
