n 2025, I processed my ECSA annual fees, as per the invoice they send me. Then a month later ECSA sends a email saying "oopps they made a mistake in the amount", then they handed over my account to MRT Recoveries, to pay the outstanding R731, which arose due to no fault of mine. Since then, these people have been harassing me since Oct 2025 to pay the balance. But I keep sending ECSA emails after emails stating the following, which the still have not done to-date. 1. My annual ecsa fees can be processesed ONLY ONCE IN A YEAR , thats the rule of my company, so I cannot process the 2025 outstanding balance anymore, as I already processed it once on the old invoice 2. To solve this problem which ECSA created themselves, I asked ECSA literally a 00 times now in the last 8 months, to : a) to send me a official invoice for the outstanding balance R731, not just a threatening email, as I cannot pay willy nilly just because I received a email. b) That they add this extra R731 to the new 2026 bill, so that I can process it. NONE OF THE ABOVE IS DONE TO-DATE, BUT THEY KEEP HARRASSING ME EVERY MONTH LAST 8 MONTS TO PAY THE REMAINING R731 BY SENDING ME TREATENING EMAILS Its like I am talking to a brick wall !!! This is very poor service from ECSA and pure harassment, and I am so sick and tired of them,

I am very disappointed with the service I am receiving from ECSA, I have now sent more than ten emails requesting an invoice but I still nothing. I just don't understand why receiving an invoice can take so long.

What excellent service I received from Mr. I Mokgale of ECSA. From responding to my email for help with a phone call, to scheduling an appointment after his working hours and to patiently and expertly guiding me on how to load my CPD points and how to renew my professional registration. Many thanks.

ECSA has been the most disorganised and frustrating organisation I have ever dealt with. I submitted an application for professional registration via MRA with ICE UK on 20 June 2024. I followed up numerous times but ECSA often took more than 1 month to respond to my emails. The imp**** that my application "might" have not been considered since they were no longer accepting hardcopy applications, yet to this date (21 January 2025) their website states that the "new registration system" is not yet active. They then asked me to resubmit my application via the online portal, but some of the senior executives cannot even confirm what documents are required the day before the portal opens. I cannot fathom how ECSA functions but can see from here and google reviews many people have had similar experience. Since I was lucky enough to be registered as a Chartered Engineer in the UK I do not need ECSA registration, especially since I don't work in SA but I would have liked to be a registered member anyway. In the end I could not deal with the incompetence and just asked for a refund of my application fee. I feel sorry for those who have no choice but to deal with ECSA.

My experience with ECSA has been nothing short of frustrating and disappointing, showcasing systemic inefficiencies, poor communication, and a lack of professionalism. I submitted my professional registration application on 14 August 2024, along with instructing my referees to email their reports directly to ECSA on the same day. Despite following all required steps, I recently received communication from one of ECSA's registration officers requesting that I email the reports directly to her. When I explained that the reports had already been sent at the time of my application, her response was dismissive. She further stated that if I did not resend the reports within five days, my application would not be processed in this cycle of submissions. This forced me to chase down my referees again to resend the reports, causing unnecessary stress and wasting my time. Earlier, around June 2024, I requested an invoice from ECSA so that my company could pay on my behalf (i have evidence). Their response was that ECSA no longer issues invoices to companies, citing a decision by their CFO as the reason. This made the process incredibly inconvenient, as my company enforces professional registration with ECSA and reimburses employees who pay for themselves. To my surprise, ECSA is now issuing invoices to my company, despite refusing to do so for me earlier—whether in my personal capacity or through my company. This inconsistency is deeply unfair and amounts to blatant prejudice. Compounding these issues is ECSA's overall lack of responsiveness. When I followed up on various queries, I was told that they are overwhelmed with emails and that this is why they are taking so long to respond. However, there isn’t even a ticketing system in place to track queries, leaving applicants in limbo with no assurance that their concerns will be addressed. I wouldn’t mind waiting for two weeks, even though it is frustrating, if there were a system in place that guaranteed my query would be attended to. To make matters worse, reaching anyone at ECSA is a nightmare. The receptionists claim their sole responsibility is to answer calls and transfer them to the “right person,” but when calls are transferred, they don't go through. Even reaching the reception itself involves excessively long waiting times, and emails frequently go unanswered. Despite having clear evidence of my communication with ECSA, I have been met with nothing but incompetence and unaccountability. This experience has left me disillusioned with ECSA as a professional body. Their mismanagement, lack of communication, and disregard for applicants’ time and concerns are unacceptable. Immediate action is needed to improve their processes, establish a proper tracking system for queries, and ensure applicants are treated with fairness and respect. Until these changes are made, ECSA risks further eroding the trust and confidence of the professionals it is meant to serve.

ECSA keep on sending me incorrect statements not reflecting the payments I have made. All my e-mails to [email protected] or [email protected] go unanswered. My ECSA login also do not work. They do not answer their phones, call centre is always congested, so how do you actually communicate with this supposedly professional organisation? My registration number is 20000049

ECSA is a bunch of utterly incompetent muppets. Calling them a professional body is an insult to the engineering profession. I have been trying to end my membership for over a year now, and despite the fact that I have left the country permanently, these imbeciles continue to send me invoices demanding payment for doing absolutely nothing. They follow in the proud South African Government tradition of extorting money just for existing, and have become so blatantly obsolete that if it were feasible I would recommend all of my South African colleagues register with an overseas body that actually serves the purpose of administrating our profession. ECSA I hope you read this and feel very very, very VERY ashamed of yourselves. By the way, don't expect them to ever pick up the phone, respond to emails or serve their purpose in any way shape or form, they exist solely for the purpose of ending out invoices for services not rendered.

If it was possible to give a 0 or negative star rating I would. I have been registered with ECSA for 5 years, paid my outrageous annual fees faithfully every year, with the understanding / hope that this goes towards a council which is meant to provide a service to the Engineering profession and industry at large. WHAT A HOAX! Can I get a refund please??? No one answers the phones or responds to emails. Have not been able to get any answers regarding confirmation of my 5-year renewal of registration, for which I have submitted documentation three times already. Ironically, the only correspondence I do receive is reminders to pay outstanding fees, which were already paid months ago and proof of payment sent! Don't get me started on their useless online portal, what a joke! I will not even get into the hell they have given the Candidate Engineer I am mentoring with regards to her registration as a professional. So much for a body which is meant to set the standard of conduct and professionalism for Engineers, the very people who are meant to be building this country. When ECSA demonstrates no professionalism and such poor conduct themselves, how can they manage a field which should, and must, be held to higher standards. Why do we continue to get swindled by these thieves? Do the maths, an annual fee average of R3500 - R4000 per registered person/candidate multiplied by how many of us? What benefit / service do they provide? It's blatant robbery. The irony is that the industry places so much store by being registered with these clowns. It literally dictates your employment opportunities and growth these days. @ECSA: Please start fulfilling your mandate or refund our annual fees and relinquish your title as the Professional Engineering body in South Africa.
