I am extremely disappointed and frustrated by the treatment I received from this neurologist and his practice. I was referred by my GP due to a severe migraine that had already lasted 3 weeks and was no longer responding to the medication previously prescribed. This is also not the first time I have dealt with this condition, and the neurologist already had my medical history on file, yet my concerns were still completely dismissed. Instead of showing urgency, empathy, or professionalism, I was refused admission because I could not immediately pay the R2000 consultation fee. To make matters worse, the neurologist then told another doctor that I “didn’t want to pay the R2000” and was therefore “going the medical aid route,” which is completely inaccurate and unprofessional. At no point was I refusing to pay — I was trying to access necessary medical care through the appropriate medical aid process while suffering with ongoing pain and worsening symptoms. What is most upsetting is the complete lack of compassion and manner shown throughout this experience. I was treated as though my condition and pain were not serious, despite dealing with a prolonged migraine that had persisted for weeks and medication that was no longer effective. For a specialist, the dismissive attitude, poor communication, and lack of basic professionalism are unacceptable. The practice itself is equally frustrating to deal with. The neurologist is almost never available when calling, and the receptionist is consistently rude, dismissive, and unhelpful. Patients already dealing with stressful medical situations should not have to fight just to communicate with a doctor’s office. The hospital should also seriously reconsider relying on only one neurologist who is only available in the evenings. Patients needing urgent neurological care during the day are left with very limited options, unnecessary delays, and added stress. Access to proper healthcare should not feel this difficult. Overall, this experience left me feeling ignored, judged, unsupported, and deeply disappointed in both the neurologist and the level of care provided. I would not recommend this practice to anyone expecting professionalism, compassion, or patient-centered care.

While i agree with a few comments but not fully, i can confirm that i too was attended by Dr Djan who is a neurologist, in September 2026. I have DVT on the left and had this constant pain (like i was being poked with needles). He actually helped me with the problem and advised me it was something to do with veins since i am anemic. He prescibed medication and can confirm that poking feeling is gone. However, i must confirm that he does come in the wee hours. I even asked one of the nurses and she told me that Dr Djan ONLY DOES HIS HOSPITAL ROUNDS AT NIGHT, during the day he is else where. His offices is closed during the day. He is not much of a talker, appeared to me as soft, and shy - people might take this in a bad way and say he's not friendly, but that's his personality and he does know his job.

This Dr doesn’t even deserve 1 star. Long story short after a week in Alberton Netcare Hospital only to have tests done and seeing the Dr for 5 min @ 10 in the evenings I still didn’t get any answers or test results (MRI and Nerve tests) from him. Was sent home with Betablockers and no answers and trying to get your results from his office is just non existent.

Dr Djan is very good in explaining but his staff is extremely bad in communicating and if you do not phone to ask for feedback you do not get it , so it is a good and bad experience for me at this stage cause i am still waiting for my medicine with need to be motivated by Doctor

Where do I even start. 🤔 Firstly I waited 3 months for my appointment, finally the day of my appointment he was 2 hours late no apology nothing. The I was told I need to be admitted for an LP & MIR. I had to do my own pre- admissions and pre-authorization myself. On the day of my admission I was told to be there early in the morning only for the Dr to check me see me at 9pm. Finally got to do my test with I had to literally beg to be taken there as if I am not paying. I stay in hospital for a good 3 days just to do tests that can be done in a day, oh and I was woken up at 12am to go for the MIR. It got to the point where I didn't wnna be there anymore, I tried calling the room and the receptionist Lucreatia is as rude as hell no people skills whatsoever, the nurses also tried to call Dr Djan who told them he was busy and couldn't not talk. Long story short I discharged myself from hospital and I still have no idea what's happening with me as I haven't received my results or any interpretation of the tests. I am emotionally and physically drained. This was a hell of an experience! Don't waste you money on this Dr guys.

Overall experience in 12 months has been less than desirable. Unreliable and lacks communication skills. He comes to the wards at ridiculous times like between 12 and 3am in the mornings. Now that Ive moved to another neuro I realise just how bad he really is. To anyone who reads this, DO NOT go to this neurologist, he will only add to your emotional rollercoaster due to your condition and will leave you feeling uncertain and not to mention how his mannerisms makes you feel like you are in a government hospital... on that note I found out that he in fact IS STILL busy woth his residency at a government hospital.... so there we go...

The worst experience I ever received from Dr DJan at Alberton Hospital. I went in on Friday 4august2023 at 10am. I speak to the nurses and they advise the neurologist I'm there. Then the nurses say they don't know about my scans that need to be done. I had to inform them why I was there. Dr Djan comes and sees me only at 9pm on Friday night. I couldn't to the MRI because I suffer from anxiety and claustrophobia so he had to prescribe something for me to be calm. Then they say sorry we cannot do it Friday there no doctor on call to check your blood pressure and heart rate. We will do the MRI on Saturday. So I tell them why can't we do the EEG in the meantime and then you can do the MRI tomorrow. Do they put on the EEG machine. Mind you this is 10pm at night. While day went pass and nothing. So the next day I'm suppose to go for the MRI at 3.30pm. They come and tell me the MRI has moved to 6pm. They fetch me at 6.30pm. The EEG Dr was suppose to remove the machine at 3.30 which he never showed up. I had to remove it myself has I had to go for the MRI. Dr Djan come and sees me at 12.30pm. Tells me you are discharged. The nurse says you can go home. He says it's her own fault she's here this long. She was a drama queen in the MRI. In any way I jus lept quiet and didn't say anything. He tells me he will phone me with the MRI results on Monday. Monday I had to call them for my results. The receptionist also an extremely rude lady who can never help you with anything says to me your EEG results are fine. I will call you tonight with the MRI results. No calls. Today I call her at 11.20pm she says I'm sorry you are not our only patient you will get your results on Thursday. I said you didn't even call me to explain this. Very disappointing and very disgusting with the way Dr DJAN handles his patients. Never go to him if you have an emergency or you need to see a neurologist.

This neurologist is based in Alberton - just a little bit of background my dad had a stroke between the 15th - 19th of August 2022 and was admitted by Alberton Hospital (not great service at all) complaints have been logged as well. He was treated by Dr Djan and we battled to get an appointment after he was discharged from Alberton & Kensington Rehab Centre. The receptionist told my sister Madeleine that no appointment available until a later stage until she said she will advise if he gets a stroke to wait until the Dr, is available then quick enough she could find a spot on the same Day 29 November 2022 and on 30 November 2022 my sister emailed them regarding a referral letter for occupational therapy which dr prescribed and the medical aid requested a motivational letter which she never got a reply. On the 9th of January 2023, my sister requested a form to be completed at the old age home before admission. Today I just called the ask if they received the email regarding the information required and the lady at Reception Lucreatia advised me that the doctor did not do any queries as yet (we all are busy) but he gets paid to do his job. No referral or completion letter will be done until he gets time to do it. I am sorry to write a note for a motivational letter takes him nearly a month and a half - Maybe we will get the letter for the Old Age Home in 6 months or maybe when has passed due to a fall that he bleeds to death because he can't stay at home alone then by that time the report will be completed. Kind Regards Anita Bothma
