TLDR – I will never recommend or use Autoworks again. I sent a detailed email to Autoworks on a Saturday to explain that my Navara required an annual service and additionally, my alternator pulley had broken and I requested that they quote for a replacement alternator, replacement accessory belt, inspection of the air conditioner compressor clutch, inspection of the turbo, and new cabin filters as the AC had a slightly musky smell (I even provided the OEM part number for the filters). Their first availability was the Wednesday, and I had my Navara towed through to their workshop. Only on the Friday was I provided a quote to remove and send the turbo and air-con compressor away for refurbishment!! This quote could have been provided on the Monday and the vehicle had already been sitting there for two and half days. They send your parts away to third parties for inspection or work, so rather take your vehicle directly to the specialists and save yourself time and money. So, I opted for the turbo and air-con to stay put, but for the new alternator and belt to be installed. The new alternator and belt was supp**** on the Monday morning with the commitment to have the vehicle ready for collection Monday afternoon. I received a call around 3pm to say that they were having trouble installing the new alternator and that I would be able to collect on the Tuesday morning. I collected the vehicle on the Tuesday morning, and after I hit the freeway, noticed excessive smoke coming from the exhaust. When I got to work, I inspected the oil level and found it to be 25-30mm above the high mark, which is off the charts and should have been inspected and picked up after the oil replacement. The excessive crank case pressure had pushed oil all the way through the turbo, intercooler hot pipe, intercooler, and intercooler cold pipe and into the intake. After draining the oil to the correct level, I had to remove the intercooler and related piping to clean them out, which took a good 5 hours. But luckily this was caught early and there does not seem to be any permanent damage. After cleaning out the intercooler, I could still pick up the musky smell, and opened the glove box to access the cabin filters, and found that they had broken my left passenger side roof grab handle and just stashed it in the glove box instead of fixing it. Needless to say, my old cabin filters were still in there, and I immediately sent them an email with photo asking if they perhaps missed the cabin filters. A week later I have had ZERO response… It makes me wonder if they even bothered to replace the fuel and oil filters. On inspecting the replacement of my alternator and belt, I also picked up that they had snapped my belt tensioner bar. I can see that they attempted to rethread the bar, but the tensioner bar has snapped clean. I don’t know how on Earth the belt is still under tension, but I am waiting for a new tensioner pulley assembly to arrive before removing it and installing the new parts. It’s not only an additional cost on a part that they broke, but I am honestly more comfortable installing it myself then asking them to do it. Overall, a very frustrating and time-consuming experience.

I am writing this review in the hope that people will be more careful when taking their vehicles to Autoworks in Saltriver. Always check your vehicle after repairs or services. I received mine back from Autoworks after having a wet belt system replaced (timing & oil pump belts and kit) including a full service and brake and clutch fluid flush. In total it costed me about 21k. My car was in their workshop for 3 days. After getting it back I drove it to the mall but instinct made my open the bonnet to check. I found that the air filter which alone costed almost 800 to replace was just hanging out the side of the filter box, which wasn't closed properly. I also had a leak on my coolant reservoir which wasn't there before. I also have two oil leaks on the timing belt cover which was removed to replace the timing and oil pump belts. This is the first time my vehicle has ever leaked oil or water in its 10years of age and these leaks only occured after taking it to Autoworks. I had to replace the coolant reservoir as it was cracked during the service. I will never take my vehicle back there again as they had 3 days to get this right and have a lifelong customer had they done so.

I often wonder why some businesses bother using their websites for one to query quotes etc. Autoworks Milnerton is a typical one, as a week ago, I requested via the Internet to quote me a cost to fix a blown cylinder head gasket. Using this method, one cannot load images or videos of the problem and once one has pressed send against my comments, there is no reference of traceability of my request. Needless to say I have still not received an answer, whilst other workshops came back to me the next day.

I have been using Auto Works for a while now, and this time was the worste. My Toyota Hilux has been running perfectly for the last 5 years, sent in for a minor service, oil change and spark plug change, my car comes back and doesn't want to idle and switches off while standing still, yet nothing came back on the inspection report as everything passed and was satisfactory, then when I called them suddenldy there is a problem with the cables, then when I took I back suddenly there is no pressure on the the 3rd cylinder and they need to run tests, when calling in the reception has you on speaker and is shouting across the room to you while on the phone instead of going to the phone a speaking normally, the reception was supposed to give me a quote on the small things that was listed to be fixed, when I went in to collect the car for the second time and I asked if the quote was ready, still nothing and she sits looking at the computer screen with her toungue out thinking of an answer- very unprofessional( I'm still waiting on the quote). They call the foreman who give me some lame excuse as to why the car now doesn't idle now as it could be the new spark plugs they just fitted- but they cant tell as they need to remove the cylinder to send it for testing and then foreman goes on to say how awesome these hilux bakkies are and talks about a some nonsense art of distraction bull**** tactics clutching at anything to distract from the fact that suddenly my car needs more work done and they suddenly don't know anything-they all scratching their heads why now it doesn't have pressure - this is just like all the negative reviews for Auto works Milnerton

Took my vehicle in for a service and a health check to Milnerton branch and asked them to replace windscreen wipers. They quoted and I paid. When I collected my car they advised that they did not have the correct tool to replace Renault windscreen wipers ?? Eleven days later still trying to get a refund and they ignore emails. In the process of this, they quoted R9k for a replacement windscreen wiper motor which I declined. Not sure if they couldn't be bothered after I declined to spend a further R9k with them but they did not put the right hand windscreen wiper back on properly and it rattled constantly against the windscreen. They claim they "checked" my car and yet failed to advise that the rattle coming from my engine was the cam chain that was stretched and required replacement. Pretty big oversight. Would not recommend at all. I will rather stick with Renault Service Centre in future.

Rip-off 1. Started working on my car 2 days later than promised, resulting in 1st delay. 2. Ordered 1 sparkplug instead of 3 - oversight, increasing my quote. 3. Has had my car for 5 weeks now, instead of 3. 4. **** about pistons being couriered overnight on 9th Feb. They arrived a week later, causing another delay after 3 week period lapsed. 5. They blame vendor, vendor blames them... 6. Tried to charge me extra for labòur when I had already paid R1500.00 to strip and examine pistons - Matthew suggested replacing pistins while car was stripped to avoid extra labour costs later. They still charged me and I had to rectify them. 7. After 5 weeks, and an apology from Kay, they now cannot give me my car today as promised, as TODAY, they now email me and claim that another gasket seal is needed. I already paid for that almost month ago! Did they damage the seal or was it YET another oversight? God alone knows. I have taken ill and explained that my commute as a person with a physical disability means taking 3 buses in the morning. To these guys, it seems to be all about booking far too many cars to increase their revenue and subsequently, being humble to deliver. Also, their quotes are promised on a day, but only ever comes 1 or 2 days later - another convenient excuse for them to be late. Matthew and his team Gerard etc. and Dan etc. have a terribly oiled machine that a friend suspect may not even be at their workshop. ***********, ***********, ***********. Possibly a greedy company that books far too many vehicles at once. So much so, that they can't keep up. I hope to never have to.use them again - if they actually manage to fix my car and correctly install the water pump. More hhan 75% for gasket, water pump, pistons etc. and clutch kit has been paid for already, so it is not delayed payments that are to blame. As a person who has made known my physical disability, I am very disappointed at my experience with Autoworks, Salt River - free coffees aside. Free coffees does not get me to work. Mel Anon

Bad experience at the Milnerton branch, i booked my car in for an ABS light that was lit on my instrument cluster and i mentioned that at times it feels like i have a loss of power when accelerating at low revs. I was very impressed by the check in system as i decided to work from the service center because i lived too far for them to take me home. I observed the service manager taking pics of the car, making some notes, checking inside. Then the car went into the workshop and i lost line of sight. A few hours later i get told the car is ready and everything is done, attached was a recommendation to change the spark plugs and do a throttle body clean which i opted to do at a later stage, my main concern was the light, the car drove fine otherwise. I pay, get my keys after the service manager did the final test drive and i pull away however the car is jerking very bad, and i felt unsafe. I returned and asked if they could please check as something was off, they pulled it back into the workshop where after a few tests and lots of engine revving, i was told the car must stay and can't be driven as it will damage the catalytic converter (all Greek to me). I leave and went on with my day, got a call 2 hours later to say the car is ready, i can only come back the next day. The fix was to replace all the spark plugs and do a throttle body clean (amazing how they knew this beforehand). Next day i collect my car, pay and before driving off, decided to check small items, like that special nut for the wheel, and decided to open the engine bay, where i found my chrome bonnet trim was broken. I called and got assistance and quickly had 3 people standing around the car. I was told that this looks like it was repaired already, and they know how to open a bonnet without breaking anything. I drove off, got home and checked it out again, where i found that around 6 blobs of black automotive silicone were put under the chrome trim in an attempt to fix it. I took pics and because i know they dont work weekends i sent it on Monday. I was told that it looks different now and it looks like i tried to fix it at home, there is nothing they can do, and they will not replace the trim. I asked very politely for them to check in with the workshop and ask if they did break it and tried to fix it (because i also clearly recall seeing black insulation tape on the bonnet stretching down to the chrome trim when the car went out for one of its final test drives before i left the Friday. After a little wait, i got told that nobody in the workshop broke it, and nobody tried to repair it and it seems like i am trying to get something fixed for free. I urge you to please check the workshop because if someone lies about things like this, who knows what else is under the carpets. I overlooked the broken clips on the batter cover and the black silicone left of a few of the parts in the engine bay. To top it all off, when i reviewed them on their Facebook page, i lost the ability to access their page (image attached), i asked a friend to access the page and it works, however the comments for that review are blocked and my Google reviews are being deleted.
