I must give a shout out to Dr Noleen. I have been a client of theirs for more than 40 years and all the wonderful dogs that came into our lives and our hearts. I've known Dr Selmer since he came to SA in 1970-ish. They know these dogs are a massive part of our lives and understand we are scared and worried. Dr Noleen - thank you for saving our Poppy.

i am writing this email just a few hours after losing my beloved best friend ..my beloved dog..... i am in absoulte shock regarding the agressive and bullying behvaiour of the male staff from ashburn vet , The incident took place on 09/01/2026 @ 12 :30 A.M (Eaily parts of the morning ) when my very eldery dog suddenly collapsed and was in his final stages of life,, i urgently required assistance as i wanted him eautinized ,as i could not allow to see him suffer in pain. i called ashburn vet, A lady answered my call, i had advised her that i need to bring my dog for Euthanasia as he is very critical and in a coma, she puts the phone on loud speaker and made another male staff speak to me as he refused to come to the phone. When i advised him that he needs to come closer to the phone as i cannot hear him he became extreamily abbrupt towards me over the phone, All i could hear was that he is shouting towards me and saying he is busy !!!!! ,he kept on shouting .....I was so afraid to bring my dog there as i could not allow my dog to be seen or treated by such an aggressive individual .......unfortunally my dog passed away while i was looking for another 24 hour vet i called in 2 hours later to get his name as i want to report this matter to the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC), The same individual answered the phone , i requsted his name, he laughed and hanged up . When i called in the second time , he advised me in a hostile tone that if i want his name i must come to the vet now and meet him personally and he will give his name !!!!! To the owners of of ashburn vet .... how are your allowing a staff wIth such hostiality working around animals !!!!!! i am going to personally report this to the complaints board due to the fact that indivduals like this is a danger to society especially when dealing with animals

I have been a consistent patron of the hospital on multiple occasions . I was screamed at by an extremely unprofessional Sister SPHE , saying that she is annoyed, simply because I asked her why I was charged for a procedure and there are no results. She kept changing the answer. At first she said the doctor didn't write any notes, then she said it's probably normal because no medicine was prescribed, to I don't know I'm just working the night shift. I was confused by her different answers so I asked for further clarity and if i would get results . She became loud, screaming aggressively and started shouting and when i asked her to calm down and not to scream because I simply asked why there are there no formal results for a charged procedure ,she said shes annoyed by my questioning, and I'm not letting her finish. When she continued to shout, 2 out of the 3 other receptionists started shouting and speaking in Zulu and fighting in the background like a gang as she tried to get back up. It became a circus as she screamed her way at me, backing off into the theatre until several collegues had to calm her down and escourt her away. She was screaming uncontrollably inside the theatre. My family and I were horrified and shocked by her unprofessional aggression. She then said she will scream and shout because nobody can talk to her like that and began cursing .She requires further training on how to engage with clients and counseling.

My cat was sick but I only had R500 to take him to the vet with. I had made an appointment at a Veterinary hospital which agreed to treat him for that amount that I had. During the night he could not breathe so I had no choice but to rush him to Ashburne Veterinary hospital as they are opened 24 hours. They took him straight to the back because he was having trouble breathing and told me that he is stabilized and on oxygen. I was told that I needed at least 15k for all the tests they need to run. I am unemployed so I told them I only had R500 and asked if they could please just leave him on oxygen for the night so that I could get him to the other clinic in the morning which I could afford. He said to me that it won't be advisable to move him as he is on oxygen. When I asked to see him, he was in a small cubicle which was half opened and there was a small tube of oxygen just left there but all the list was escaping because of the cubicle being half opened. He still could not breathe. I asked if it will take some time for his breathing to normalize he told me yes. He told me I could speak to management the next day to discuss giving me some time to raise funds to pay the bill. I went there the next morning to speak to someone from management. I explained my situation to him and he was cold. He looked at me as if I want to ***** from him. My cat was left in that condition with no drip set up even though he was not eating and no help at all. I was told that his fever was down because he was injected with antibiotics but he was obviously dehydrated and nothing was being done about that. I saw him in the same state. He still was having difficulty breathing. I tried so hard to raise funds posting on Facebook. I was panicked within me because I knew he was deteriorating and I had no time. I was told I needed 5k in order for them to start testing and xrays even after I poured my heart out to them. I asked if they can please start treating him while I come up with the funds. They refused. I felt so stressed. I was shocked to learn that there was no compassion at all. It was all about money. That same night they called me to say he had passed away. I was devastated. I felt like I failed him yet they failed us both. My heart is crushed. All I wanted was for him to recover and come home 😭. I went to fetch his body to bury him at home and I was told I could not take him without settling an amount of R2600 first which I did not have. Though my grief I had to endure this. I told them I didnr have money and he died in their care where there was no drip and he was left with oxygen that looked like it was for show. No one came to speak to me. The receptionist was back and forth conveying messages. After she got back from speaking to management she came back to say that they can being the amount down from R2600 to R1400 and I have one month in which I can pay that amount and fetch my cat. I had no choice but to leave without him. I will have to come up with that money and fetch my baby so I can bring him home. This was the worst experience that I have ever had at veterinary hospital before.

To the amazing Ashburne Veterinary Hospital team – thank you from the bottom of my heart for the care, compassion, and kindness you've shown to my furbaby, Lulu. These past few days have been tough, but your support has made all the difference. Special thanks to Mr. Evans Paradza for your incredible leadership, Dr. James Taylor for your calm and caring approach, and Shannon K. Chetty for your kindness and understanding during a difficult time. Every single staff member – from the front desk to those behind the scenes – you truly make Ashburne feel like more than just a vet. Thank you for treating Lulu and me with such heart. You’re doing something special, and I see it. -Saieesh

I took my cat in for an emergency in the early parts of the morning. When I got there we had to wait outside for a while as there was nobody at reception even though i did call them before going. I phoned them to open for me. When we got in the paperwork was most important, and won't treat your pet before it. We then waited a long time before the vet came to assist. In an Emergency! At that point we were contemplating leaving which we should have done. When we saw the vet he was very *********** and was guessing and didn't help much except for giving us the most expensive treatment options. The focus at this place is clearly on money. R6000 for blood tests and then another R4000 for keeping her and putting her on a drip. They will only be treating the symptoms, which was only half of the symptoms that they chose to focus on as the others didnt seem important to them and theres nothing more they can do. We had no confidence in the capability of the place at this point and said we would rather leave and wait until our usual vet opens. I had to pay R1600 for a useless consultation which doesn't even matter because we went to see another vet straight after! It's such a pity that people are forced to use this vet after hours. And clearly this practice charges exorbitant fees because people are desperate

I had a very bad experience with Ashburne Vet Hospital, I had taken my dog there as she was attacked by a ******, they informed me about a consult fee of 609, I went there with my dog for a consultant and was told due to the emergencies that they have I will need to leave my dog there and fetch her at 17h30, I went to the receptionist and requested how much will it be and she said that she can't give me the bill as the vet still needs to assess. A hour later I contacted them to find out the status of my dog and they transferred the call between multiple ppl there and then they said the vet will call back. When they called back I asked what was the cost, they didn't say anything to me. When I went to collect my dog I had a bill of 2200 waiting for me, I didn't even give a go ahead for anything they just put a bandage and said she is fine. I said I didn't give the go ahead and why am I getting the bill of that amount. I didn't get an answer all I was told if you cant pay your dog won't leave. They called a white lady there and she came out all fuming saying the dog doesnt leave without payment I said I will pay the consultant cause that's what I came here for but now I'm getting this bill and before I left earlier I asked for the bill, the white lady said it's not her concern I either pay or leave the dog behind and I will have to pay additional for them to keep the dog until the bill is settled. I even spoke to the vet that saw to my dog and she admitted that she was also at fault for not communicating with me before she proceeded and the white lady said that the vet mustn't admit to that. Now they sending me a bill for outstanding and threatening me for payment. That place is not for the love of animals they are there for the love of money especially that white lady I'm very unhappy. Now I'm taking my dog to another vet who is doing it for the love of animals and not for the love of money

I was always an advocate for Ashburton, even tho there was alot of negativity. But as of recently I have seen how unprofessional they are. I had to take a kitty in to have teeth done, the vet told me I didn't have to do bloods, when things went sideways she blamed us for not doing bloods.we had to put Bella down because she had brain damage due to this. This is R16000 later, but we were fine we understood mistakes can happen.bit the kicker came when putting our kitty down another vet wanted to pick her kids up from school then come back. She said 5 minutes we waited a while, then because her child was throwing a tantrum, whoch we cud hear, she wanted her child to be in the room while we were doing this. They can't understand why we were upset, first u blame us for our cat dying. Then we must worry about a child being in the room at our most vulnerable time. So I called the people in charge to tell them to please train ur vets properly, and they just make excuses about no vet was off duty she had her kids. I requested someone else to do it. My response was ur vet made a mistake with my cat I understood, even tho it cost me R16000, but urlls insensitivity when we have to put our baby down is horrible. Just a sorry, we will make sure this doesn't happen again wud have been enough. But they still making excuses. I had to change vets 3 times.
