I am writing to formally express my extreme dissatisfaction regarding the handling of a vehicle I sold to We Buy Cars Diep River Cape Town on 22 January 2026. The vehicle sold was a Toyota Etios. Before selling the vehicle, I specifically took the precaution of removing my personalised registration number and replacing it with a standard CAA registration at the Loop Street Traffic Department in Cape Town. I did this to avoid any future issues relating to fines, ownership, or registration complications. I was also assured by the sales consultant at We Buy Cars Diep River that there would be no future problems after the sale. My personalised number plates were returned to me after removal from the vehicle. However, on 9 April 2026, I received two traffic fines via SMS. After investigating the fines and viewing the photographic evidence, I was shocked to discover that the Toyota Etios I had sold was driving with my personalised registration plates displayed on the vehicle. I immediately went to Plumstead Traffic Department and was referred to Gallows Hill Traffic Department in Cape Town. After explaining the matter there, I completed forms for investigation and was advised that: the fines could temporarily be redirected to We Buy Cars, however, fines would continue to be issued against my name as long as the vehicle continued driving with my personalised registration, and that I should open a ******** case regarding *****ulent or cloned number plates. A case was subsequently opened at Grassy Park SAPS and is currently under investigation. The moment I became aware of the issue, I contacted the salesman at We Buy Cars Diep River. Although your office indicated that the fines would be paid, this does not resolve the actual problem — namely that the vehicle is still operating *******ly with my personalised registration plates. I have now received more than 10 fines, an infringement notice, and additional handwritten traffic fines linked to this vehicle. I have had to repeatedly travel into Cape Town, take leave from work, visit traffic departments, and deal with ongoing inconvenience and stress for a matter that should never have happened. It is also my understanding that buyers are required to register vehicles into their own names within a certain period. It appears this was not properly followed up. Furthermore, I believe the current driver may have gained access to previous registration information and ********ly reproduced my personalised registration plates. I fail to understand how this situation can simply be regarded as “my problem,” particularly when I followed all the correct procedures before the sale and trusted We Buy Cars as a professional dealership to ensure proper processes were followed thereafter. I have also requested assistance from We Buy Cars to help prevent further prejudice against my name by assisting with changing or rearranging my personalised registration details, but I have yet to receive any meaningful response. This experience has left me deeply disappointed with both the service and the lack of after-sales support provided by We Buy Cars Diep River Cape Town. I therefore request the following urgently: Immediate intervention to trace and stop the ******** use of my personalised registration. Written confirmation that all current and future fines linked to this matter will be handled appropriately. Assistance in resolving the ongoing infringement issues affecting my name. A formal explanation regarding how this situation was allowed to occur. Urgent feedback from senior management regarding the resolution process. I trust this matter will now receive the serious attention it deserves.
