I don’t believe a one-star rating adequately reflects my experience. I took my sick puppy in to TAH belville and was simply advised to take her home and syringe-feed her. When her condition deteriorated, I returned at 3:00 a.m. and was told to give her electrolytes. Less than 24 hours later, she passed away. This felt like a lack of urgency and proper care at a critical time. Pet owners trust professionals in vulnerable moments, and in my case, that trust was misplaced. Leaving aside the bill of over 2,000, the emotional cost has been devastating. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this practice to others.

I am writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding the unacceptable level of service, lack of communication, and alarming misdiagnosis we experienced during our first visit to TAH Bellville with our new puppy. From the moment we arrived, the experience was deeply distressing. We waited for approximately three hours without any updates or communication regarding our puppy’s condition. Despite repeatedly asking for information, no one informed us what was happening. It was only after I raised my voice and demanded clarity that we were finally called in. When we eventually saw the veterinarian, we were told that our puppy had broken bones and that he would probably need to be put down, pending further scans. We were informed that these scans would be done and that we would receive a call the following morning. Our puppy was kept overnight, leaving us extremely distressed but trusting that we would be contacted as promised. The following morning, we received no phone call, no update, and no communication whatsoever. We were completely in the dark. Out of concern, we contacted the breeder, who drove all the way from Herm**** to meet us at TAH Bellville at 11:00. Even then, we waited almost another hour before being seen. When we were finally called in, it was not by a veterinarian but by a nurse, who informed us that our puppy was not high risk, that they could not determine what was wrong, and yet advised us to take him to a specialist. This directly contradicted the previous evening’s diagnosis and raises serious concerns. How can a puppy go from “broken bones and likely euthanasia” to “not high risk” without any explanation, diagnosis, or prognosis after nearly 24 hours in your care? During this entire period, no clear diagnosis, treatment plan, or explanation was provided. We effectively spent almost 24 hours at or waiting on TAH Bellville and left with no answers. Due to the confusion and lack of confidence in the care provided, the breeder requested that the puppy be released and took him back to Herm**** for a second opinion. At another veterinary practice, the issue was diagnosed as an infection. I cannot adequately express how disturbing it is to consider that we were advised that euthanasia might be the best option, when in reality the condition was treatable. Had we followed the initial advice given to us, a healthy puppy could have been unnecessarily put down. This experience represents the worst level of service and professionalism I have ever encountered at a medical or veterinary facility. The lack of communication, contradictory information, failure to diagnose, and the emotional distress caused to us is unacceptable. I am left asking myself how it is legally permissible for a veterinary practice to operate in this manner.

I'd like to take this moment express my sincere appreciation for Dr Skye Sheerin. We laid of Golden Girlie Dolla to rest due to illness, and Dr Skye showed true compassion towards our darkest day. Dr Skye, you weren't just an VET that day, you showed us you human and that you really cared what we were going through. My wife and I will forever remember You Dr Skye. Thank you for being professional but most of all comforting us and giving us the reassurance. I can see your true love for animals and the loved ones. I thank you so much Dr Skye. We need more VET in this world like yourself. Thanks TAH team as well.

After moving recently, we needed to find a new vet, and I’m so glad we discovered TAH! The entire team is wonderful—friendly, helpful, and truly professional. We recently admitted one of our cats for a procedure, and the experience was handled with such care and empathy. I highly recommend the vets here. Thank you, TAH Plein Street!

Stay away from TAH Bellville branch. The only thing that this practice cares about is receiving payment. My dog was admitted at TAH Bellville with an emergency and spend 36hours there. During this time I did not receive a single phone call from the practice with any updates on his condition. I called multiple times & the reception staff kept on telling me that the Drs are busy with rounds & will call. No one called. He eventually went for surgery (which I also wouldn’t have known about if I hadn’t called multiple times) and even after he had been discharged I have not received any proper feedback on how the surgery went. R14 000 later & he has Cotton Wool stuck on one of the wounds. I am shocked that they couldn’t even use a decent plaster on that wound as well. (I guess I should be grateful that the main/bigger wound atleast has a plaster on) His paw is swollen where anaesthesia was administered. I will never recommend this practice to any pet owners. They made an extremely stressful situation so much worse. Everything was a struggle with them, from getting correct invoices/statements to updates on how my dog is doing. Appalling service to be honest. Staff members kept on informing me that they are short staffed , which leads me to wonder wat quality of care are they providing to the animals in their care? With the rates that you charge I am sure you can afford to hire a few extra hands. Absolutely horrible experience.
