Ordered battered hake, which I'd enjoyed a week earlier - so much so that on that earlier occasion I congratulated the manager, Samuel, on producing fish and chips as good as you can get in the UK. This time the hake was unrecognisable as the same dish I'd enjoyed a few days earlier. Instead of the batter being crisp I could pull it into strings, like chewing gum. Also, the whole appearance smacked of a reheat job. So, I called Samuel again. To my astonishment and increasing annoyance he wanted to argue about it - claiming the fish was exactly the same as on the earlier occasion. Eventually I persuaded him to apologise for arguing and effectively gaslighting me, which he very grudgingly did without any grace whatsoever. As a replacement meal I requested fried camembert - I wasn't going to risk the hake again - and was eventually presented with possibly the worst effort I've been unfortunate enough to encounter in a fairly long lifetime. So that's it - my wife and I are not going back there again.
