Soundselect
Based on recent customer reviews, Soundselect generates strongly polarised feedback within the music and sound equipment retail space. Customers consistently praise in-store experiences, citing knowledgeable staff, hands-on product testing, competitive pricing and standout assistance from named team members such as Luke, Shejay and Lina. A recurring counter-theme involves online purchasing frustrations, where shoppers describe stock availability misrepresentation, slow or unprocessed refunds, delivery delays, wrong or damaged items received, and difficulty getting consistent communication from staff once issues arise. Walk-in shoppers tend to leave delighted, while online buyers more often report disappointment.

I bought a guitar through Sound Select. The process was easy and swift. I received my guitar soon after. It wasn't quite what I was looking for, and I wanted to exchange it. Normally, this would be an issue for many businesses, but the people at Sound Select, specifically Lina, made this a trouble- and hassle-free procedure. Despite my own caprice, Lina patiently helped me throughout the entire process. It's a great company with great service. And if you want to buy any music-related item online, this is the only site you should consider. Thank you to Lina (and Luke) for your great service!!

On the 4th of April 2026, I responded to an online advert from Sound Select for a 'demo/open box' electric chainsaw, 'Ryobi CS2000' and purchased the item the same day for R490. As they wanted more than R300 for postage, I organized for it to be picked up by The Courier Guy, at the cost of R175. When the item arrived, it was packed in an oversized box; the original box was badly damaged, oil soaked and filthy. The chainsaw was filthy and lacked a guide-bar. The accompanying product manual was also oil-soaked and thus rendered useless. I tried to negotiate with Sound Select, even at managerial level. An apology was reluctantly offered – if I sent back the item, they would refund me the product price, but not the courier cost that I had paid. As they would have had to refund me and pay the return postage, I made them a proposition that I would keep the machine, if they would at least refund me my courier cost to partially compensate for the missing guide-bar. They refused and I decided to keep the machine (since I had already gone to the trouble of cleaning it) and ordered the guide-bar from a different company. When my package arrived, I tried to fit the guide-bar and chain, but then realized that more parts of the machine were missing. So I had to order those too from Ryobi, costing me another approximately R200. In total, the machine costs me R1 227 so far. I could have purchased a new machine for less. I was pretty disgusted with my dealings with Sound Select.

My helper who is not computer literate CANNOT GET HELP. She has tried to query her account soooo many times. It’s impossible. I tried to help her on their WhatsApp line but after their instruction to phone them, no response!!! Very very bad.

I placed an online order with SoundSelect on 03 Apr, for an Epiphone ECLPC-AW Les Paul Custom Alpine White Guitar. The product was clearly advertised and confirmed as in stock at the time of purchase, and I received an order confirmation. After payment, SoundSelect showed a status, and still do, of "Confirmed - We're preparing these items for shipping". When I inquired a week later, from their online sales contact, Lina, when shipping would happen I was informed that the item is actually not available. I immediately requested a full refund, and got a confirmation of the cancellation by email. I was informed that the refund would be processed. More than a week after that I inquired about my refund. I was then informed that the haven't done the refund because they were looking for stock. I mentioned that is not acceptable. They confirmed the refund, I'm looking elsewhere for the item. They have still not processed the refund despite my follow-ups. I have sent multiple emails and messages, but responses have been delayed, vague, or non-existent. As of today, 21 April, I still have not received my refund, and the order remains unresolved. This is very disappointing, especially since the website showed the item as in stock when I ordered. Other customers seem to have experienced similar issues with stock misrepresentation and slow refunds. I would not recommend ordering online from SoundSelect until they improve their stock accuracy and refund processes. I am now escalating this through Mobicred and the National Consumer Commission. Order number: 30003742382 Amount: R 27 087,00 Update: If they resolve it after this review, I'll happily update.

On 9 April I ordered the Akai APC64 from SoundSelect and was given a lead time of 3–5 working days. On 14 April I emailed Paulina, who said it takes 3–5 working days from JHB to CPT. Since the order was placed on Thursday 9 April, I expected delivery around 14 or 15 April. On 16 April Paulina emailed to say I could collect on the morning of the 17th. I drove through to the Woodstock branch in pouring rain, only to find the item had not arrived. As she told me I could collect and the item wasn’t available, I asked Paulina to keep me updated and to ensure my item is delivered, since I’d already made the trip. I requested she stay in touch throughout. I sent a WhatsApp this morning, 20/04/26, with no response. The lead time given by SoundSelect is misleading and staff communication needs to improv
