1. Food quality is no longer the same 2. Incompetent staff 3. The service is slow and poor I honestly don’t know what happened to our one time favorite restaurant in town but it’s no longer the same.

We recently had our AGM at The Rat and I have to give Dudu and his team the thumbs up for a job well done. They helped us fit it into our limited budget, chairs and tables set up perfectly in a lovely, quiet and well lit room, set up a PA system, waitress assigned to us was permanently available - all in all a fabulous venue and very happy with the outcome. Only got compliments from those attending. Thank you Dudu and the Rat.

So for the past few years I have made it a habit to attend the National Arts Festival in Makhanda (formerly Grahamstown). Rat & Parrot is one of my favorite eating spots. However, this will now change given how they have treated a query i had with them. In the first week of July 2018 during the NAF I ate food at Rat & Parrot twice or thrice with friends. On one of the occasions i got debited an extra +R200 for food we did not consume and alerted one of the supervisors on duty. He requested i provide proof. Unfortunately, i could not do so as i use Telkom network which does not have coverage in that town. Local FNB branch could not assist as I did not have my identification documents with me at that time. I ended up coming back to Pretoria without being refunded. I then wrote emails to Zikhona Klaas an Assistant to the Financial Manager regarding the matter. It was a back and forth matter until she requested i send her my bank statement in order to verify date of transaction. Point of contention was on the exact date the double debit took place as notification only showed the date the transaction got cleared as opposed to date and time it transpired. She also claimed that she could not go through all the slips they had hence for an exact date. I managed to send her my bank statement for that month which only showed transaction's date of clearance as opposed to when it took place. On my side, I also contacted FNB who claimed they could only assist if the transaction was still pending. I sent emails, called but kept on being told stories until i gave up. Two Hundred Rands seems little but imagine the money they make if cases like this happen frequently and remain unresolved or they get away with it? I am just not happy with how this matter was handled!
