I ordered a part from Cape Town and Stuart’s service was Top Class
I bought my wife a Smeg Kettle and toaster which I believed to be extremely over priced for what it is, however I knew my wife liked the "retro" look, and so do I, so I bought it anyway. Not long after the purchase the kettle lid wouldnt open and we took it back to Tafelberg where it was purchased, and it was replaced. We took it back twice after that and it was fixed ... For R2700 for a kettle its rediculous that after 3 years the kettle has had to be replaced and fixed twice....I have had other cheaper brands and I still have them and the only reson they not being used, is becase we bought something from Smeg... just because it looks good..... Now the toaster has broken... at R3500 its an absolute waste of money ,the element stopped working and is only toasting the one side of the bread. We took it back to Tafelberg but now its conveniently out of the guarantee... Never mind we understand how a guarantee works and if its out of guarantee then we need to and are willing to pay to have it fixed, be it that we are not happy that it has broken after such a short period... but wait for it... we are now being told that Smeg cant or dont or wont fix it, but they are prepared to give us a 50% discount off a new one... why would I want to spend more money on clearly inferior products.. I dont want to spend R1700 on another ****** toaster....especialy when its only 3 years old and R 1700 "to have it repaired / replaced" doesnt go down well with me. I am already having post purchase disidence, due to the poor quality and aftersales service... Quite frankly the SMeg product is Rubish and just dressed up to look good, and that is what sells it. The quality is not good at all. I agree 100% with another review that I read ...Italian products look good ...like the Alfa car....and yes I can comment as I have had one and also experienced a similar issue when I need to order a simple but necessary part and was told that it wasnt available,,,,but thats a discussion for another day...the fact is that the product shouldnt only look good and cost the earth, but should be able to do the job and be worth the money, however the Smeg product is way over priced and doesnt live up to the reputation of being a quality premium product, because it certainly doesnt last and whats the point if it looks good, but cant do the job yet it costs so much....it's enough to P..S you off! I really hope that there are many a potential buyer that reads this review and changes their mind about buying a Smeg product because I can certainly bear testimony to the fact that its overpriced rubish and a waste of good money...and the only thing it has going for it is the design, but as for quality its really poor. As for Tafelberg, who stock the brand Its the last you will see me too as we have supported you VERY, well and my wife has spent a fortune on buying product from you....and thats not just me ranting,, its a fact, you can check your records, and to be told sorry buts there is nothing they can do as Smeg wont fix your appliance that you piad R3500 for, and you must now spend another R1700 and throw good money after bad on a new product after only 3 years is just not good enough......you should stand by the brands that you sell and not be dictated to by suppliers who sell inferior products, as it gives you a bad name A.
