I visited Dr Cindy Augustine’s practice in Umhlatuzana today at approximately 08:30 with my husband, who was unwell. Upon arrival, I asked the receptionist what time the doctor would be available and was informed that it would be after 09:00. However, the doctor arrived earlier, around 08:40. When I attempted to go inside to be seated and have my details taken, I was told that we were not allowed to sit inside and would only be assisted after 09:00. I waited outside as instructed. At around 09:03, I approached again to request that my details be taken, but I was then told that they would only assist after 10:00 due to a meeting. This was not communicated to us earlier while we were waiting. I expressed my concern that we had been waiting since 08:30, especially as my husband was not well, and that clearer communication would have been appreciated. Unfortunately, the receptionist responded dismissively and walked away, which I found unprofessional and disrespectful. This is not the first time I have experienced poor attitude from the receptionist, and it is disappointing as patients expect to be treated with courtesy and empathy, particularly when they are unwell. Due to this experience, we had to leave and seek assistance from another doctor. I would appreciate it if this matter could be addressed, and for staff to be reminded of the importance of respectful and clear communication with patients.
