On the 10th of April 2019 at 8:30am I had an appointment with Dr T Bhika ( Gynogologist / Obstetrician ) as I had suspected I either had cysts or endometriosis. I had symptoms for quite a well and after a year it started becoming unbearable, therefore made the appointment ASAP. Now with knowing I was going to a private hospital, i knew I would definitely get answers to all the questions I have had running in my head for months and get a diagnosis. The receptionist was very friendly and polite and so was Dr T Bhika's assistant nurse. The nurse had me change and wait for Dr T Bhika in the consultation room. As this "gentlemen" walked into the room he did not introduce himself, he did not even great me. He looked at my file and then looked at me. Still not saying a word I then start explaining what problems I am experiencing and the pains and where. He then asked two questions, if I have missed periods said no, asked if pregnant said no but did just miscarry, as yesterday the 9th the day before the appointment I officially lost the pregnancy. I tried to explain that I had seen the tiny sac and the long cord attached to which he just got up and left and the nurse had come in to show me to the examination room. At this point I am waiting for him and my husband is in the waiting room,Dr T Bhika walks in and walked out,I was already in such a state from the day before and I was in a ball of nerves as to what might be found,I did not here him say to remove my underwear. He walked back in and I asked if my husband can please come in the room as to which he rudely said hurry up. I approached the nurse and asked her to please watch our kids so my husband may join me ( this lady kindly and without hesitation agreed to watch them ) as I need him and also need him to be in the room to listen. So my husband and myself come back to the room and again he does not introduce himself to my husband and rudely and loudly says go stand there. Then Dr T Bhika realised I still had my underwear on and yelled I told you to take it off. So we now start doing all the examinations which is thee only thing i can give 1 rating for as he did all relevant checks and diagnosed me and told my husband what it is he is about to do. But in between all this I am asking questions (Like any patient would, esp if you have fears of the worst) which were being ignored or just spoken over while asking. After all was done he wanted to prescribe the contraceptive pill to which I then stood my ground and said no and I know there are medications to dissolve cysts. After having to argue that I do not want the contraceptive and would like the cyst to be resolved he walks out, as he walks out I start crying as I felt like from get go I was an inconvenience to him and he just wanted me done and out and I did not know if I was going to get the help I wanted as contraceptive pills do not resolve existing cysts and it had been a long time to get this help I desperately wanted. I then go to his office for my script, as I sit down he asked if I was on any medication to which I said no thinking because it might interact if I were on other medication. That question was then followed by am I in counselling or seeing a physogolist again I say no,Now I'm really getting frustrated and upset to which he then said he suggests I see someone as there is something seriously wrong with me. I'm sorry WHAT.... then also told me stop running to a gynogologist every time you miscarry. I then got sarcastic and asked does he by any chance prescribe those types of medication ( mentally ill people ) I then took the script and paid (Cash) and left. Firstly I was NOT there because I miscarried I was there to get answers as to what in the hell was going on in my pelvic area as it was unbearable. I then started researching the two medications he prescribed which cost R600 ,the more I'm trying to research the effects it has on cysts and dissolving them and time frame and so on, I got no where. (You see, he said I had no endometriosis, the cyst has none growing on it nor signs of cancer therefore do not need it surgically removed) I then started researching the actual medication to find that both are just very high dosages of pain relief and actually harmful and can overdose on them. I have prescribed two of these non-steroidal anti inflammatory drugs and had to take them twice daily. One dose (tablet) daily for ten days straight is harmful and has a 95% chance of making a women sterilized. That's not my issue,my issue is spending money and time on this Dr who gave NOTHING to actually resolve the cyst which now has a chance to get worse. His treatment and way of speaking to me and what he had said in his office was HIGHLY INAPPROPRIATE and all he did was diagnose me but left me walking out untreated. I was advised by a highly sort out doctor to stop the medication immediately,as I called him with my concerns after my research of these tablets and confirmed they will not resolve the issue at hand and the cyst will just continue to grow.
