Not accountable.
Offers to do masonry work to install a new door frame, does a bad job, then tells me my building is skew, and they don't actually do masonry work, which is strange. Didn't actually want them to replace or redo. Just wanted some advice and a quote on an additional 4 windows. Had an appointment, didn't show up, then wants to send his manager. Didn't have an appointment with his manager, had an appointment with Dewaal. Didn't show, now too busy.

Not actually an insurance company.

Auto and General Insurance is unfortunately riddled with employees and contracted companies who should simply not be in the insurance industry.

I was involved in a MVA on the 31st of August. A stationary vehicle hit the side of my car whilst I was passing him as he was coming out of a parking spot.

I called the insurance and they came to fetch my vehicle. No one calls me for two days. On the third day I call them to hear what the case is and they ask me where my vehicle is (!?). Upon realising they already have my vehicle, they then inform me that if I am not claiming from them then they can’t help me and I will be charged for holding the vehicle. But they didn’t mention anything of this when the accident happened or when they fetched the vehicle. I immediately demanded that they return the vehicle to my premises which they did.

I then contacted them again asking them what the claims procedure is. I was then explained and pointed out in my policy that they simply do not assist with 3rd party claims, which is strange as no one actually mentioned this to me when I took the insurance out. Anyway, my bad, lesson learnt, know your policy. If I knew then what I know now, I wouldn’t even have asked.

I then proceeded to action the claim with the 3rd party’s insurance company, Hollard, in my own capacity. To do so I had to get my car somewhere where they can assess the vehicle, Hollard. Suzuki assessed the damage for me to the region of R64 000. I submitted this to hollard, failed miserably and only got offered 7k, which is below my insurance excess. Apparently I shouldn’t drive with “blinkers”

So I decided to take the bullet and pay the excess to my insurance and get the car repaired. I sent all the information and quotes from Suzuki to A&G, to assist them.

Suzuki did a great thorough report of the damage, they didn’t miss anything as far as I know. This includes body damage and rear axle damage, which is visibly evident as the rear wheel is skew and there brake fluid coming out of the wheel casing.

A day later I get a notification from Tecton, which is obviously A&G contracted repairs centre, that the vehicle will be ready in 10 days. This raised a flag for me because Suzuki specifically explained to me that the rear axle is bent and will need to be replaced and the parts take 21 days to arrive. So I called a Mr Llewelyn Rinquest. He is the individual who is handling the repairs procedure. I then found out that he didn’t even read any of the documents I forwarded to them from Suzuki, which included a damage report and a quote for the repairs. I asked him about the rear suspension and then he explained he doesn’t know anything about the suspension. Why? “Because it wasn’t in the accident report, sir”. I have never heard of a damage assessment that is based on the accident report. As an assessor, how do you miss a bent rear axle? I am still not convinced he actually did an assessment. Not that he needed to as Suzuki has already done one which I sent to him. I then urged Llewelyn to get someone to do a proper assessment. Next week I was informed that they have found additional damage to the suspension and the parts have been ordered.

Strangely enough, as soon as the car went in to Tecton, I get an Email from telesure asking me to do a detailed description of the accident so that they can assist me in claiming the excess from the 3rd party (did my policy change?). I do so, draw sketch etc. send it through. A week later I get the same request. From the same individual. I inform her I have already done so and do it again anyway. Not a week later, ANOTHER request to do the same thing, from a different individual. This time with a website to draw the sketch which doesn’t work anyway. Tried on 4 different web platforms. Anyway, did it again, and this time sent all my communication between myself and Hollard re my attempt to claim from the 3rd parties insurance, who knows, maybe it makes their life easier.

Two weeks later, after having to ask them twice, their response is that the 3rd party doesn’t have insurance. But he does. I know he does. I even sent communication straight from his insurance with all his details straight to telesure. I ask to clarify and then told it’s been “escalated” (another word for I am lazy). After a week no response, I call them again, promising me that they will send me the details. I get told they have the right “by law” to take up to 3 years to settle this and there is no guarantee. I would love to know by which “law” this is acceptable.

So eventually the car comes back, but with problems. The brakes are not working properly. So bad that I don’t feel safe driving the car. The wheel alignment is out and the wheel balancing. Also, a loud screech sound comes from the brake fluid distribution box when hitting the brakes. My thoughts were, they didn’t do the alignment or balancing, and neither did they bleed the brakes correctly. I’m no mechanic but I’ve bled my own brakes and I also know my car and I know what my brakes are like. So I contact them and they ask me to take the car to Suspension City in Maitland. I told them no, come fetch the car. So they do.

Second time back, exact same sound from brake distribution box. I even point it out to the two drivers who bring me the car, who shake their heads and say that’s not right. So back the car goes.

Third time back, no change. Brakes are definitely better, obviously bled it properly, but sound still coming from distribution box. Alignment still not right, balancing still not right. I then get told by Tecton that Llewelyn reckons the distribution box is damaged and it is not accident related and it costs in the region of R4000 to replace. I argue this as I have had my car in to Suzuki for a major service a few weeks prior to my accident the brakes being one of the major items serviced. I tell him that he is welcome to look in my service book to see it has been done, and they are welcome to contact Suzuki for the full service report.

During these three times, they used up a half a tank of fuel, which they didn’t even have the decency to replace.

So, I give it one more chance. They come to fetch my car on Thursday. Now I’m dealing with a new lady from Tecton. I write a detailed explanation of the problems to her, and also indicate that I am unhappy with the fuel that they need to replace. They tell me the car will be ready Monday. I ask them when Monday as I have to plan my day around it they tell me it will be in the morning. Monday Morning I email them early to hear what the status is. I’m told that the car has to go to an alignment specialist. Fine, when do I get the car back? 4pm. No one knows what they did with the car for the whole of Thursday or Friday. I keep asking her during the day what Suzuki’s feedback is on the three problems I pointed out to her. She keeps giving me feedback on only the alignment and wheel balancing, not the brake distribution block. She says Suzuki will give me feedback on that via mail.

The next thing you know, my car is delivered, with exactly all the same problems, just a stiffer steering wheel. And only after I receive the car back I get an email from Suzuki saying that they didn’t pick up the problem in the distribution block. Strange though as I immediately picked it up upon getting back my car, and even though I spoke to the Service consultant at Suzuki on the Thursday to explain exactly what is wrong with the distribution box and that you have to hit the brakes for the sound to come up.

Why did they wait till after my vehicle is back the 4th time, to tell me they didn’t pick up the fault, even though I explained it to them on the telephone? Why is it impossible, after 4 attempts, to not be able to fix the alignment or wheel balancing? Is the problem then not maybe somewhere else? Do they not have this kind of insight into problem solving?

So firstly, an insurance company that doesn’t help with 3rd party claims, well that’s just bad, but know your policy. Secondly, a damage assessment report based solely on the accident report, regardless of me sending in all reports from Suzuki themselves, and still misses a bent axle? I don’t think this guy even ever saw my car. Is this guy even trained in his job? I see there are other complaints to A&G on this exact same problem. Thirdly, three requests for description of accident in an effort to assist with claiming the excess, two from the same individual, and then told that the third party doesn’t have insurance, even though I sent them all the details and comms between myself and his insurance? Then fourthly, despite 4 attempts to address even the most basic of problems, still no luck. Not to mention the half a tank of fuel that they used in the process again.

Getting into a vehicle that belongs to you and knowing it is not right even though other people had it to be repaired 4 times, is like walking over a dog that belongs to you, but who was has already been abused by 4 previous owners. It’s really no good getting into a car and having to be reminded around every corner how badly it’s been taken care of.

But here’s the best of it. So I decide to cancel my insurance with A&G. Via Telephone, which ended up on a call which I had to hold on for 10 minutes. I eventually get put through to…. FIRST FOR WOMAN INSURANCE?! That’s not even who I’m insured with. Last time I checked I’m a guy.
