Nelson Mandela University owes me R26,000, and they have been ignoring my requests to submit a claim. They have also completely stopped responding to my calls. I have had this "due to you" amount for over six months now.

It is evident that, at NMU, one professor can block the project of another professor, causing many people considerable hardship. So, folks, that's how we do research in South Africa. You are not allowed to compete with the professor. So I do not recommend approaching a university in South Africa to do research - it's all about ego and control.

This is hysterical: Rules that Nelson Mandela University Management imposes on students: 1. Submission of your treatise/dissertation/thesis for assessment Your attention is drawn to Rule G5.11.5 ... The final date for submission is... in order for you to graduate in December... If you submit after the final date... you accept that the assessment process may not be completed in time for graduation in December... Meanwhile, they themselves are not capable of meeting a standard payment deadline. What a joke.

Nelson Mandela University has defaulted on payment of a substantial amount for 90 days now. Who takes 90 days to make payment? Clearly they have no understanding of business or management. The finance department is inefficient, arrogant and ***********. They are not fit to manage the finances of ANY organisation, let alone a university. Students cannot access their bursary/scholarship funds, lecturers cannot access their research grants etc. etc. It is hugely disturbing how what used to be a top Afrikaans university on the country has been trashed in the hands of these *****s.

Yet again the finance department at NMU has defaulted on a payment for publishing books invoiced more than two months ago. Clearly they have no understanding of business practice or efficient management.

In responding to whether I would recommend Nelson Mandela University - Academically, yes. I know and work with several excellent professors who are affiliated to the university and who, for the record, are equally frustrated and dissatisfied with the tardiness of the university administration.

The financial manageress at Nelson Mandela University regularly delays payment with no explanation. I submitted an invoice for proofreading a student's PhD Thesis on 5 March, which is still outstanding. The work is ready but I am withholding it until the financial manageress makes full payment. She make doing business with the university not viable.

My review would be a zero if that was possible, I have been trying to contact the exams department and the phone seems to be only for formality because nobody answered it. My story is that I completed my degree and I never attended graduation because of financial problems, my degree is still with the institution and I really need a certified copy of it urgently. I have been calling multiple numbers trying to get access to someone who can help me with my problem but nobody answers the call. Don't even get me started on emails, no one responses ,I am literally close to being de-registered from another institution because I could not provide a certified copy of my previous qualification. I am so disappointed that amongst the other opportunities that I missed out on like job offers, I also miss out on studying further because of lack of assistance.
