"I am furious with how MTN is treating me.I had an MTN contract. Because of wrong information from your own agent, my account was wrongfully handed to debt collectors. I fought that and eventually paid the account in full. In January 2026 I received a paid-up letter and an email confirming the account was closed. That should have been the end of it.
Then on Wednesday, September 2025, I got a “Final Payment Notice” for R1,256.80. No date on the letter. I called MTN immediately and wasted almost 2 hours on the phone. Every single agent tells me my account is closed on their system and they have no idea why I got the letter. No one can help.
I got passed around like a ball: Customer Service → Credit Accounts → Legal → Collections → Retention. I asked for a team leader. Nonjabulo Sikhakhane refused to take the call and dumped it on Mosa. Fine, I gave Mosa all the documents she asked for. She promised to get back to me within 24 hours.
Later that same day, around 4–5 PM, I got an SMS saying MTN has reinstated my debit order. Again I called. Again no one knows what’s going on. No team leader available. Finally Minentle Cele comes on and tells me he can’t help until Monday because it’s his knock-off time and weekend off. He admits this whole thing is due to an MTN system error that caused both the letter and the SMS.
This is unacceptable. You closed my account. I have proof. Your system error is now harassing me with **** debt letters and SMS messages. No one at MTN can take ownership or fix it. I am not asking for a favor.
I am demanding that you:- Stop all collection activity immediately.- Send me a proper account closure letter confirming I owe R0.- Make sure this does not touch my credit record.
If this is not resolved by Monday, I will escalate this to the Ombud for Communications Services and report MTN for harassment and credit bureau misconduct. I will also share this experience publicly.

I just came back from the MTN branch at Somerset Mall. The assistant checked their system and told me to ignore the matter because, according to them, I don’t owe MTN anything.
I then spoke to the MTN desk in the mall passage, and they said something different: my account isn’t closed, but I also don’t owe anything. So now I have two MTN teams giving me two different answers.

I NEED TO KNOW:WHAT'S THE ACTUAL CURRENT STATUS ON THIS ACCOUNT? WHY IT WAS NOT CLOSED? WHY AM I STILL GETTING COMMUNICATION REGARDING THE ACCOUNT?
