John Dory's Fish
Based on recent customer reviews, John Dory's Fish receives sharply divided feedback across its branches. Customers consistently praise standout locations like N1 City, Canal Walk, and Liberty Mall, where attentive managers and waitstaff are frequently mentioned by name for warm hospitality and memorable celebrations. However, a recurring theme involves serious concerns about seafood freshness, with multiple diners describing stale prawns, raw fish, and even illness after eating. Order accuracy, slow service, hygiene lapses, and unsatisfactory complaint resolution from management are also commonly raised across several branches.

Lunch today, one bite of the cream spinach and I found something hard. Spit it out and it's a white plastic clip used to seal bread bags. Service from management was bad. They only showed up after my wife finish eat and then asked what they could do. Forget about it. Never again. Disgusted. Yuck

Always a pleasure visiting N1 City. Paul provided excellent service, and the food quality is always consistently great. We came again last night and, as always, were not disappointed. Ricardo also came over to greet us and made sure everything was to our satisfaction. A special thank you to our waitress Nana for her friendly and attentive service. We visited John Dory's on Valentine’s Day and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience. There was only one waiter serving the entire restaurant, while the manager was standing around talking instead of assisting staff during what was clearly a busy evening. As a result, the service was extremely slow and our food took over an hour to arrive. My wife ordered the Captain’s Platter, and when it eventually arrived, there was a prawn and rice shortage — the portion was incomplete. I ordered the 400g ribs with prawns and rice, and when my meal was served, there was no rice at all. For a special occasion like Valentine’s Day, we expected much better service and attention to detail. Instead, we left feeling very disappointed. Management should ensure adequate staffing and proper quality control, especially on peak days. Very disappointing experience overall.

Last week Saturday my mum and I were at Greenstone mall with my 3month old,we decided to stop and have lunch at John Fury's as they were having a Prawn special and as a sea food ***** I was excited. We both ordered the 12 Prawn special plus a plate of calamari. After waiting forever for the food as the restaurant was busy our meal came, for the first time ever the Prawns came with a weird barbeque vinaigrette basting on it.. I have never seen this before and they tasted really weird and did not taste fresh at all. As if they had to put the basting just so they can camouflage the stale Old taste of the Prawns. My baby stated troubling so we hurried up and left as we were starving and waited forever I didn't wait to complain. 30 mins after leaving the establishment I started getting strong tummy cramps and was abit concern so we decided to head home. The evening just got more worse with intense pain and cramping. I hardly slpt the night with the immense pain I kept having. On Sunday I spent the entire day throwing up and using the bathroom and only having water and even that was been thrown up.i was in immense pain and realised I had food Poisoning. On Monday when the Doctors practice was open I went in and they did a urine test and sent me for a sonar ultrasound to find out what is going on and the test results came back as sever E-coli food Poisoning. I was in total shock. I was given antibiotics and pain meds to help me get some relief and to help, unfortunately this type of food poisoning is so sever with tented Prawns that now 7 days later with only the last antibiotics left for tomorrow,I am still in lot of pain and still suffering. Will have to make another trip to the dr or something he ER this weekend to try and get some help. I am totally disappointed with John Dorys running a special with bad old stock of seafood that got me sick and my mom, my mom's symptoms thank god was not as bad as mine were. I'm not sure how many other people might have eaten that bath of prawns last sat the 24th Jan 2026 and ended up either hospitalized or worse.

EAST RAND MALL BRANCH If you are thinking about going to John Dory's East Rand Mall for the sushi buffet, save your money and go literally anywhere else. Calling this a "buffet" is a flat-out ****. I sat there for over an hour and in that entire time, I was "served" a grand total of two pieces of sushi. Let that sink in. You pay for an all-you-can-eat experience, but they treat it like a hostage situation where the sushi is the ransom they refuse to pay. It’s a clear tactic: they ignore the buffet tables and move at a snail's pace. The service is non-existent, and the management clearly doesn't care that people are sitting with empty plates for 60+ minutes. It is dishonest to advertise a buffet that you have no intention of actually serving. I’m not paying to sit in a booth for an hour just to admire the decor. Absolute joke of an establishment. Avoid at all costs.

Thank you to the staff member at John Dory's Walmer Park Port Elizabeth for being so patient with two 80 year old's who couldn't get the JD app on their phone to work. Even though the restaurant was crowded with holiday makers they spent time with us. Much appreciated. The grilled fish and chips and sides were excellent and many future returns to this establishment is on the cards.
