I’ve been to GrubHouse Vaal Mall Vanderbijlpark a few times, but my recent visit on 24 March 2026 really left a bad impression. The way the manager, *Sonet*, treats her black staff is extremely disrespectful and uncomfortable to witness. The management there is white, and when staff try to raise concerns and complaints to them, nothing gets done. The staff are even scared of her, which says a lot about the kind of environment they’re working in. I personally heard her swearing at them and speaking to them with absolutely no respect. I’m a black gentleman , and so are the staff she was speaking to, and the way she treated them…us…was disgusting. The attitude towards black people in that space is very clear, and it’s not okay! This is beyond bad service… It’s discriminatory and completely unacceptable. No one deserves to be treated like that. If this is not addressed, I’m more than willing to take this further and involve the Department of Labour to investigate the workplace and interview each and every black staff member there.

The new Edenvale location for GrubHouse delivers what you would expect from the franchise: good food, well served. The location has been newly renovated, and the new anchor store, OK Foods, has brought a much-needed lease of life to the property. My wife and I would frequent the Glen Ballad GrubHouse at least once a month, and now that there is one in Edenvale, a stone's throw away from where we live. We'll definitely be there more frequently. Although the decor and ambiance is very different from the one at Glen Ballad the culture and ambiance is matched, and some of the team from Glen Ballad are serving at this location, remember us and are able to train up the new team well. We were seated, quickly, and our new key contact person Thando learned our names and has taken personal responsiblity to ensure that every visit from now on she will take care of our need. It shows that a team well equipped, and management with a heart to build with community brings people back time and again. My wife and I really enjoy being served by a team that treats us like we're part of the family. And this is what GrubHouse keeps on multiplying well at their various outlets.

Ek het op 27 Februarie 2026 'n skokkende ervaring by Grubhouse Vaal Mall gehad. Wat 'n gesinsete moes wees, was 'n totale fiasko weens 'n bestuurder wat duidelik geen belangstelling in sy werk of sy kliënte het nie. Die lugversorging het nie gewerk nie en die hitte was so erg dat my jongste kind siek geword en begin huil het. Ten spyte hiervan was die diens traag en onbeholpe. Nadat ons self vir ons drinkgoed en kos moes vra, het die kelners feitlik verdwyn. Die grootste probleem was die bestuurder aan diens. Terwyl my vrou desperaat probeer het om die rekening te kry sodat ons ons siek kind huis toe kon neem, het die bestuurder by die ontvangs gestaan en flankeer met 'n vroulike kollega. Hy het later by die kroeg gaan staan en grappies maak en lag terwyl ons gesukkel het om gehelp te word. Toe ek hom uiteindelik self by die rekenaar gaan konfronteer oor die rekening, was sy verskoning dat die kelner die verkeerde tafelnommer gebruik het. Hy het geen inisiatief getoon om die probleem op te los nie en het bloot 'n ongeëerde "jammer" gegee. Dit is onaanvaarbaar dat 'n bestuurder sy sosiale lewe en flankeerdery bo die welstand van kliënte stel. Grubhouse Vaal Mall het ons as kliënte verloor. Ek verwag 'n dringende verduideliking van die hoofkantoor oor hoe hierdie tipe gedrag toegelaat word.

Firstly. They were full. They took our number down and we waited few minutes. We were 4 people. They seated 6 people that were not on the waiting list before us. When we were seated we ordered our drinks and when we wanted to order our food the 5 food choises that the one girl had to make on the menu were not even in stock. When we got to order that was in stock we had to wait almost 2 hours for our food to be prepared, it was 2 burgers and 2 chicken strips and chips. There was onions in the butter of the chicken strips instead of chicken pieces. When the food eventually came in I asked the one girl would she maybe like some extra chips.... cause the burger was smaller. On what the waiter then eagerly Replayed on no there will not be extra chips. It has been a week now, that I have posted my review on their google review.... and not a manager nor the owner has come back to me... what does that tell me about their management. So no it is a no for me. I am highly disappointed in them.....they must get some new waiters and managers

We have ordered food from here before and absolutely loved it, so when we wanted to go out of course we had no worries and included them in our night out as a family. Ordered a jalapeno & DBL cheese. Food came quickly, smelt amazing. As I finished eating my chips and took a big bite of my onion ring, what do I see? No idea, looked like some sort of bug, maybe a bee? Maybe a fly? But it was a deep friend bug. Partner informed them and told them we would be paying for their meals but will not be paying for mine. Manager offered to remake it but immediately told her no use, I would not eat here further after that experience. So we paid and left. Can 100% say I will not be stopping there again. Even had to tripple check my child's food to make sure there were no bugs there. Manager was understanding though, we appreciate that.
