I took my little girl (cat) to this vet that we have known for years. She wasn’t eating she was throwing up she was very sick. He gave het antibiotics for a tooth infection. A day later when we got home she was cold she was just laying on the floor very weak, we phoned them the only response we got was we can’t wait for you bring her in tomorrow. We decided to take her to another vet on the spot, she is admitted with dehydration, liver damaged and white blood cells that are very low. The doctor gave us one look and said he is very worried and he can’t give us good news, he added it will be a miracle if she survives the night. My problem is the vet didn’t take his time to examine her correctly he listened to her heart and looked at her gums and decided itself just a normal gum infection. Where the other vet took her temperature which was so low he was shocked. He didn’t take the time to tell us he is struggling to get a pulse, where the other vet immediately told us he is struggling to get a pulse and once again told us it looks very bad. He immediately told us he is admitting her to do blood work, scans etc. I’m very disgusted and disappointed to how my baby was treated and how a vet couldn’t take his time to examine her throughly. I will never go back to this place!

We have been taking our pets to Dr James for ages and I would recommend him over and over. We recently lost our fur baby after an operation due to a complication after the fact which was no fault of his, but he fought hard to save her and gave us updates constantly between the operation and when she crossed the rainbow bridge. He treated us with such compassion and empathy. There are very few vets left like Dr James. Dr James, we and our families will keep supporting you with all our animals!

WARNING to Other Pet Owners I am deeply heartbroken and disappointed with the treatment my dog received at Doornpoort Veterinary on 19 November 2025. My dog was severely injured after an accident, and we rushed him to this clinic at around 07:45. What happened next was, in my view, a shocking lack of urgency and care for an obvious emergency situation. Despite the vet openly suspecting a stomach rupture — a life-threatening condition — he told me he “did not see death,” which gave me a false sense of reassurance. Instead of acting immediately, we waited nearly two hours before X-rays were finally done around 10:00. Even then, the vet informed me that he would only operate the NEXT DAY, despite confirming multiple fractures and serious internal injury. At no point did the vet communicate how critical the situation really was. No emergency surgery was considered. No referral was suggested. Nothing was treated as urgent. As my dog’s condition worsened, I felt completely let down, confused, and increasingly desperate. I had to phone around myself to find another vet who could help. Sadly, he passed away later that afternoon at around 15:20, before the second clinic could even begin treatment. I understand that accidents happen and that outcomes cannot always be changed — but the lack of immediate action, urgency, and clear communication from this clinic is something I will never forget. I am sharing this review to warn others: if your pet is in a true emergency, please make sure you take them somewhere equipped and willing to treat emergency cases immediately. My experience here cost me precious hours and ultimately my dog’s life. He deserved better. And so do other pets.
