I engaged DMS Plumbing to repair my gas geyser and paid a total of R10,290.50 across two invoices. While the geyser was ultimately repaired, I have several concerns about how the job was handled. The first invoice (R2,760) was for what was quoted as an "on-site assessment and checks." In reality, no assessment of the unit took place at my property — I had already communicated the fault to them before the visit, and the technician confirmed on the day that the unit would not be opened on site as that is done in the workshop. I was billed for an assessment that was never performed. The second invoice included charges for materials (braided connectors) that were never installed. To his credit, Darren acknowledged this and offered a credit — but the items should not have appeared on the invoice in the first place. I also had to follow up multiple times to find out when my unit would be returned, which took considerably longer than expected. Given that a loan unit was already installed and paid for, there appeared to be little urgency on their end. When I raised these concerns in writing and asked for an itemised breakdown, I was told this would be the last response to my queries and was compared to someone ordering a steak at a restaurant and asking the chef to break down the cost. That is not how a business with sound ethics handles a legitimate billing dispute from a paying client. I would caution anyone considering DMS Plumbing to get a detailed written breakdown before accepting any quote, and to document the condition of their unit before handing it over.

Wow, I wish I'd read the reviews before asking this company to do work.... He "quotes" you R690 ex vat for an 'assessment', which to me sounds reasonable and I understood it as the job of putting the camera down a 5 meter hole to assess the damage. Oh but be warned...that is a lie. The actual quote they jump on you is nearly R3,5k for a 15 minute camera inspection. Definitely will not be using these guys ever again. They are not honorable, just out to fleece you. STAY AWAY!! BE WARNED.....

Reading comments I now have had first hand experience of this company charging exorbitant pricing for a “investigation” on a call out I placed which I stay 1.2km away from their offices. Please do your research and ask for a price before requesting them to do anything. I was charged close to R3k for the above which accomplished nothing and their team sat in the vehicle on my driveway to clock up additional time to bill an additional charge. They do not respond when you query the charge and ask for a detailed breakdown so this is the first and last time I will use them. Very poor

I had contacted DMS as I had a leak in my ceiling which could have come from my bathroom upstairs (according to the complex plumber). Guys came in with nothing, except their eyes- paid 678.75 Agreed with what the previous plumber said. I received a quote for just under 10k and I asked if it can be reduced, they did to 6935.94. I paid the deposit a day before approx R3.4k.I sent emails and whatsapps telling them to ensure their guys come with a detector or something. They came in to do the work (10/03) and realized the pipes aren't where they thought it was, received another quote for the same job plus additions to approx R12.6k. After the job was done I paid the balance of approx R9k. After testing my washing machine wasn't working, called them back and was billed R2k of which I refused as this happened because of the residue of copper pipes from their cutting that entered the washer filter. I ended up paying call out of R678 (11/03). I then get contacted by the owner who enquires about the situation, after much argument, he agreed that I should not pay anymore and kindly refunded me the approximate amount if R5.6k. The leak started again and clearly was not fixed. Today, 28/03, I receive a statement from Niccolette of approx R4.4k... who even knows what for. This is just money issues I have experienced, I have not even mentioned the attitude of their plumber towards females and the laughing, reckless driving, and the hours sitting and doing nothing. I am taking this statement to my attorneys now. They think people are stupid. I really do not recommend. Stay away from this company.

They went out to fix a leaking valve at my apartment in joburg CBD. They did the job before sending me the invoice. Once they had completed the repairs they sent the invoice and I was called and badgered to make payment immediately. The job was overpriced; they charged R178 for an item that costs R70 to R100 and they charged me R1780 for labour and travel (to and from Johannesburg South). They completely took away my right to make an informed decision about which company I would use to fix the issue and they charged me exorbitant prices. I don’t think it’s lawful to demand payment (especially under those circumstances) on the same day. I have laid a complaint with the relevant authorities because they are operating against the consumer protection act. Please do not use them. You can see their ratings on Hello Peter and they don’t even bother to respond to the complaints.

Based on rave reviews seen on Mark Sham's social media I called after 5 last Thursday; there was an issue with the contact page on their website which was why I called. Darren was amazing, and helpful. I thought the pipes were blocked and needed clearing with some care; as I didn’t want burst pipes in the wall. Darren came out on Friday morning and assessed the situation. But it wasn’t a simple “clear the pipes with some pressure.” Turns out I need a new geyser. I discussed the issue with Darren and queried the price of a new geyser (verbal discussion). He mentioned that it was in the region of 5.5K but I could go smaller (100l) to cut some costs as I am a single person. I stated that I this did not make logical sense and I agreed not to turn on/fill the geyser once the existing geyser had been drained, & would go ahead with installation hopefully on Monday once I had spoken to my insurance. Friday was a cost of almost 3,4K and I did an immediate EFT with POP sent to Darren as there was no email address on the invoice. I called the insurance first thing on Monday & then called Darren straight afterwards. He mentioned that access in the cupboard was tight and I would need a carpenter to remove the cupboards. He promised to get back to me with a quote. By 1:30 pm I hadn't heard from him, but I did have an 'overdue' invoice for Friday's job in my inbox, despite having done an EFT on Friday. I called Darren to follow up on the promised quote and queried the 'overdue' invoice. He stated that that it was admin issue because the funds didn't reflect. Darren then sent through a quote for R16,194.64. I was really shocked at this because to my knowledge, the geyser unit was in the region of of R5.500 + labour and sundries and I would also have to pay a carpenter. Darren sent me the name of the a carpenter and told me he would be briefed and he would call me. When I queried, the cost, Darren was impatient and told me he 'was doing me a favour' by finding a carpenter to assist. He "didn't have to, and I can do what I want.' Darren's attitude change when I queried the cost was obvious. He denied ever saying that the geyser unit was in the region of R5500, when I queried the amount of the job on the phone. The initial quote shows no breakdown of costs & Darren's reasoning was because it was an insurance claim. In fact, it appears as if he is basing the quote on what the insurance will pay, and adding a bit. I specifically discussed that the quote should not reflect a burst geyser - it wasn't, yet the initial quote had burst geyser on it. Drew (carpenter) eventually called me at 4pm and stated that he hadn't seen pics, so I climbed ladders and sent him pics. He told me, that he would chat to Darren and revert. That still hasn't happened. I did some research over the weekend, and the geyser is available at a number of retail outlets for around R4850.00. I was willing to pay a little extra to get the job quickly and seamlessly, but this was not just a little bit extra. My suspicions were confirmed when I received another quotation late on Monday, - this time for R17,251.84 - clearly a thumb-suck figure. It is likely that if the amount had been close to the insurance figure, I would have not queried it at all, but the business is about money and it wouldn't seem like 'that much' if insurance is covering most of it. DMS is doing jobs that people will pay anything to get rid of and therefore seldom question the cost - even when it is a bit more than expected I was prepared to do that - I am on my own. But it’s not sewerage thank goodness, and I will have to live without hot water a bit longer and shower at the gym until I can get it sorted by someone with ethics that doesn’t take advantage of people who need things fixed fast. it wouldn't seem like 'that much' if insurance is covering most of it.
