I am extremely disappointed with the way my complaint regarding three damaged Continental tyres has been handled by Continental Tyres South Africa and Tyremart Hatfield. On 10 April 2025, I purchased three Continental tyres from Tyremart Hatfield. Less than a year later, on the night of 06 February 2026, my vehicle drove through potholes — something unfortunately very common on South African roads. All four tyres on the vehicle went through the same potholes under the same conditions. However, only the three Continental tyres purchased from Tyremart developed sidewall bulges, while the fourth tyre of a different brand remained completely intact and functional. This raises a very serious and legitimate concern about the durability and structural integrity of the Continental tyres. I contacted both Tyremart and Continental regarding this issue. Instead of a proper investigation or meaningful assistance, I received a generic technical explanation about how tyre sidewalls are constructed and how potholes can cause sidewall damage. The final conclusion provided was simply that “no manufacturing defect was found.” This response is unacceptable and dismissive of the actual facts. If potholes alone were responsible for the damage, then all four tyres should reasonably have been affected. The fact that only the three Continental tyres failed while the other tyre survived the same impact clearly raises questions about the quality and resilience of these tyres. There was also no visible rim damage, which further weakens the argument that this was purely impact-related failure. Consumers buy reputable brands like Continental because they expect quality, durability and safety, especially when driving in real-world conditions where potholes are unavoidable. Tyres that develop sidewall bubbles within less than a year of purchase raise serious concerns. What is most disappointing is the lack of accountability and willingness to properly reassess the matter. I have been a loyal Tyremart customer since my student years in Hatfield, and this experience has severely damaged my confidence in both Continental Tyres South Africa and Tyremart Hatfield. Watch-out of this pathethic service...

With all my previous vehicles and obviously different brand tires, I've purchased a new vehicle towards the end of 2025. With the previous double cab it was fitted with a well known tire manufacturer and gave me 100 000 km plus on a set. With the new double cab it was fitted with Continentals. Done 30 000 km on them and one of the rear tire burst, no objects or potholes in the road, just a clear, open highway. How on earth do you explain that? Tyre pressure was checked the previous day. If I look at the reviews and the response one individual received from customer service, one can clearly see they don't care. Will be changing all my tires very soon. Not planning on driving with Continental any further. Please look at alternative options before deciding on Continental's, is all I can say.

Pathetic customer service, I’m not getting any help with their worn out tyres I bought and :months later they were worn out without even taking a long distance. The technician is giving me a run around and I’m a single mother who drives around Soweto at night due to the nature of my business and I need to have reliable tyres.

Dear Sir/Madam, I am writing to formally raise a complaint regarding the condition and performance of the tyres fitted on my BMW vehicle, which I purchased in September 2023. The vehicle is now just 22 months old and has been driven for approximately 28,000 km. Recently, I have experienced an unacceptable and concerning deterioration of the tyres — specifically, unexplainable tears in the rubber, which have progressed to the point of the rubber breaking off, leaving a dangerously worn tread of 1.6 mm. I booked my car in at BMW and was advised this was caused by glass pieces found in the tyres and suspension. I was advised by BMW that I must log a complaint with Continental as the tyres in question are Continental brand, supp**** with the vehicle at purchase. I find this level of wear and damage to be highly abnormal and unacceptable for a premium vehicle and tyre combination. I have taken the car to 3 tyre repair centre's for an inspection and was advised that no one has seen such on tyres before. As a consumer who has invested in what is marketed as a high-quality product from reputable manufacturers, I am deeply frustrated by this issue. I logged a complaint with Continental and was told to take the car into a tyre repair centre which I did only to be told that my thread is too little for any compensation or repair to be done and that I must replace the tyres. I was further told that this was due to me not rotating the tyres at 8000 to 10000km and due to alignment however my alignment report showed no issues. This situation raises serious questions not only about product durability but also about the safety of the vehicle. Driving with tyres that have unexplained tears and dangerously low tread poses a substantial risk to both myself and others on the road. I am formally requesting: 1. A **full investigation** into the tyre failure, including any potential manufacturing or design defects. 2. A **written explanation** from Continental regarding the root cause of this damage. 3. Immediate **replacement of all affected tyres** at no cost to me. I expect a timely and satisfactory resolution to this matter. If no adequate response is received within 14 days of this letter, I will have no choice but to escalate the issue to consumer protection authorities and consider legal avenues.

Over my 35 year of replacing tyres on various vehicles, I have never had to replace tyres in 18 months and not even reaching 30,000 km. Today the rep of Continental Tyres viewed the tyres and asked what the problem is because I still have approximately 2,000 km left on the tyre and it is normal for this tyre ( 235/55 R18 V Continental tyre to only reach 30K km before it needs to be replaced. Besides that I will never buy this tyre again, I will make a point of sharing this with friends and family. Perhaps I should have read the reviews on Continental on this platform before purchasing it in the first place.

Worst and weakest tyres I've ever had and seen. Been drinking my car for 13 years and even the cheap "no name" brands are tougher! Fitted continentals 2months ago and already 2 tyres s****ped? One of witch was at idling speed slowly going through a pothole because there was no way around and the tyre got sidewall damage. Second one was faster and also a pothole yes buk like I said i had cheapies on before the continentals and they didn't damage even after hitting hundreds of potholes. continental is weak and not up to standard for south African roads.

Terrible service though from Continental Gqeberha ... I purchased two Conti Prem Contact 2 tyres... Clear abrasion on the tyres due to poor manufacturing and the tyres haven't even done 25 000km just normal driving. Lance Williams and David van der Merwe wrote a report to say this is standard. You tell me, in which part of the world is it normal to have to buy tyres again after 16 months??? Terrible substandard tyres used to rip us off in our tough economy here in South Africa. This is why your HelloPeter score is so bad... https://www.hellopeter.com/continental-tyres Shamelessly ripping us off and then attaching reports to it while doing so. Absolutely pathetic... I think they should be taken to task... they don't even have a decent guarantee or warranty on their products. Introduced Contisure which only lasts 1 year, mileage and manufacturing not considered as a factor. Such a big company operating worldwide they offer warranties and guarantees in other countries but here in our country they come to ***** from us with this inferior product. Disgusting. SEE my last email received from Lance Williams... Such an air of entitlement... Can this guy really be the head of Customer Care???? Good Day Mr Naidoo I am afraid this will be my last correspondence on this matter and I will consider the topic closed from our side. The contents of my report and subsequent rejection of your claim remains our stand point on the matter, no further action will be taken, this includes testing of the compound and replacement of the tyres. I wish you a good day further and safe motoring into the future. Best Regards Lance Williams Customer Services Continental Tyre SA
